A place to take the wife on a first duck hunt??

Postby quackerkiller » Mon Nov 12, 2012 5:02 pm

Any suggestions on a place to take the wife on her very first waterfowl hunt? I really dont want to introduce her to duck hunting by taking her to a public place.... Would be willing to take her somewhere if it didn't cost an arm and a leg..... Is there a place anyone would recommend? Thanks guys.... Gotta get her hooked before I show her how it can really be:.. Haha

First off "WHY" do you want to introduce her to it...............if she likes it, then she will want to tag along all the time....you must be a newlywed..............

Is this her idea? It sounds like it is something she would come up with so that you two can do this 'together'. Oh brother. And I thought MY man card was in jeopardy.

I would wait until mid to late January (when the hunting is better). Somewhere approximately 1-1 1/2 hours from home so you'll need to leave around 3-3:30 am to get there on time. Let temps get somewhere in the mid 20's to low 30's so that breaking ice is required. Preferably a timber hole with multiple beaver runs where water always runs the risk of coming over the top of her waders and at least an hour walk to the hole. You'll want her to have the full experience. After that your hunting season should be uninterrupted and she'll have a great story to tell her friends.

Hmmm. Here's a different perspective: My wife loves to duck hunt and goes with me quite often. I have never in 24 years had a conversation along the lines of "you hunt too much", "you spend too much on hunting", "I am sick of you being gone every weekend", "what do you mean you're going hunting Friday...there's a Christmas party that night", "Don't think you are putting all those mounted birds in this house" and so on.

But each to his own.

Depends on what you want... If you want her to hunt all the time with you, you need to take her somewhere easy for a first time hunt... either private land or public system draw like mentioned above... If you don't want her to tag along with you all the time, then i recommend waiting until it gets bone chattering cold, take her to the hardest place to access you have and let her get the FULL EXPERIENCE... she will never mention another word... Personally I wouldn't mind my fiance' tagging along with me, but i will not ask her to go... I stick to her being my fishing buddy but not my duck hunting buddy...
talk to um just right, and they will let you know how much they like ya!

Bahahahahaha!!!!! First things first! My man card is nowhere near being in jeopardy! Lol but on another note she IS my best friend and we do both love to hunt...... At 5'2" and 115 lbs, she is the only woman that I trust to help me catch a pig or break a bulldog off..... Takes care of 10 dogs while I'm gone for 2wks and NEVER complains about my hobbies! But thanks to her watching "Duck Dynasty" and tivo'n every episode, she told me that I WAS taking her this year cause she wanted to go...... She loves working my yella dog and you can't keep her out of a pair of mucks or square toe cowgirl boots..... And as far as making it miserable for her it prolly won't work..... Shes about as tough as the white tissue on a buck deers back strap after it makes the grease hot..... C'mon Shane and crazie I know y'all both know her, y'all gotta get my back on this one before it gets to the popcorn stage! Haha

Take her to Tallahatchie Hunts. I am sure Mr. Mike can set you up on the right spot for a first time hunt for her that is not awful getting to and from the X and killing some ducks in close.
