you folks in Oxford...

Postby MemphisStockBroker » Mon Nov 12, 2012 9:34 am

My 20 y/o daughter needs a job. Going to school there, she needs to make enough money to pay her rent.

She does not mind getting her hands dirty. Her last job was loading / unloading trucks at FedEx in Olive Branch. She has done retail sales, and fast food (Chick-Fila).

She tells me she has been looking, but can't find anything. Let me know if you have any contacts in the area.

idk if she's thought about it or doesn't like the idea. but i worked for the intramural dept while i was in school.. she can apply and pretty much for sure get hired working somewhere on campus. it's part time work, won't let you work more than 20 hours so either. just an idea..

i'd steer her away from working at restaurants or bars. I did for a year or two and was kinda shocked by the "restaurant crowd" and how that lifestyle was and wouldn't want my little sisters working at one.

I actually have two little sisters up here, one your daughters age and one 18. one works babysitting and the other at a pottery studio. I'll mention something to them and if they know of something I will pass it along.

Thx. She is not your typical Ole Miss girly girl. Would much rather be handling horses than putting on makeup. Someone mouth off to her at a bar.... it would be all over. She has a heck of a right cross!

Thanks for all the suggestions !

X2, if she is a horse/animal person, she could check with the Oxford Equine Center off of Hwy 6 (they board horses and do riding lessons) or any of the local vet clinics.

My little sister will be at Ole Miss next year and I would never let my sister or daughter work at a restaurant or bar in Oxford. Campus jobs are usually minimum wage and you can't get over 20 hours a week. I would look into babysitting and go check with all the stores around town. It's tought to find a decent job in Oxford with so many students there. If she doesnt mind driving 30 minutes to work I knew quite a few people who got jobs in Batesville or other nearby towns pretty easy after no luck searching around Oxford.

As far as working in Oxford the best bet on finding a decent job is to meet some of the locals and have them ask around.

Also, if she hasnt found a place to live yet. I know a lot of the apartments in Oxford will hire people to work their front desk and take people on tours and handle all that kind of stuff and most of them usually get very discounted rent at the apartment complexes.

The Guy that owns Taylor grocery also has a catering business that my wife worked for while she was there. She liked it and said they were really nice and easy to work for.
