I have an apex and have a 25 in barrel in 35 wheelen for it..... Love it! Devastating to a deer and bobcat, tried and proven! Ha I can shoot it 400 yards right now...... It's the gun I grab 99% of the time during the season.... Sent it off and put a brake on it and it has hardly any recoil now..... Gonna put the wife behind it this coming season!

LOL, I've whined about mine ever since I got it, but...BUT, I'm still shooting it. Really, I can deal with the recoil, it's the trigger that gets me.

I got a H&R .444 before the .35 was out, its range is limited, but where I hunt most shots are shorter distances. If I were to get a new gun today I'd go with the .35. I wouldn't get a 45-70 unless you like getting kicked buy mules.

If your trigger is crappy, give Billy Tierce in Utica a call. Took mine from about 12 lbs (on a 35 Handi) down to about 3.5 lbs. sweetest trigger I got in the gun safe!

.35 for sure!!! Lot better shooting gun!! 180 gr Barnes!!!! Bad booty!!! If it kicks too bad try wearing underwear instead of panties!!! LOL....just messing! It does kick like a mofo. But use lead sled to sight in and all you got is one shot each time....no biggy!

I've heard about them not being able to shoot reliably after lowering the trigger pull on them due to some kinda mechanical gizmo doodad in there.

if the amount of recoil determinds a factor of which high powered rifle to purchase for killing big game animals, you probably shouldnt be purchasing either of them, that being said i prefer the whelen.. no comparison as far as speed goes

35 and you'll stop using anything else.. the kick aint no worse than anything else.. besides how many times you felt a gun kick shooting at something besides a target??

I have had all three,45-70,444,35 whelen, all good guns 35 is my better choice if you shoot hornady rounds in it kicks like a mule, but remington core locks are not to bad but only time I really noticed tIe kick was setting the scope, good luck on your choice
