with all of the bitchin' and gripin' aside...Doe's is a good steak, and a good time every so often, if for no other reason but the nostalgia! It breaks the norm of "location, location, location" by serving a good product that is consistent over years and years. They aren't still around because the food sucks and it is unsanitary, give me a break!

Also, to clarify...Doe's wasn't #1 on the show as in the best steak in the country. Best I can remember in watching the show is there was no "Best Steak in the USA" proclaimed, it was different types of steaks in different regions in steakhouses that are notable. Doe's being one of those.

jdbuckshot wrote:A Great Steak Starts with a good beef, you can throw black angus out the window. Buy USDA Choice for a good steak, USDA Prime for the best. to cook it great it must lack the luster of what a normal person thinks would make it great. NO speacial sauce, or merinade's.

1" thick minimum (i like 1 1/2"), kosher salt and real pepper, get to room temperature, Grill it hot, i perfer cooked in a black iron skillet - chicago style, and rare. baste it with real butter, or like Does - Fat
if you want better steaks, buy waygu or highly marbeled ribeye's

great steaks are simple

i've ate at some of the best steak houses in the nation, Doe's is good.
What he said. A word of warning though--once you try Wagyu everything else is going to taste a little substandard, especially if you try a Wagyu Rib Cap.
