Po Monk I am going to tell you the same thing Ole Miss fans loved to tell Bama fans a few years back when we were down for a while. Quit living in the past. You gotta let the Doyle Jackson thing go. I think that is eating you alive inside and is what caused all of that lewd behavior in New Orleans.

No, its all part of the history of this series now. I am not eaten up with it --- I'm long over it. In fact, I had not even thought of it until I started trying to think of things on and off the field about this series to include in this thread. Webbie's thread re jtbowtie was what triggered my memory about it. And yes, jtbowtie and other such fans of both schools are part of the history of this series. It will have absolutely nothing to do with the results of the game being played on the field this Saturday, but its fun to recap the memories.
My brief inclusion of this in this thread was not to re-stir the pot, but to remind folks of the storied history in this series, even though the series has been obviously dominated by superior Alabama teams over the years. While there have been a lot of "close, but no cigar" games, from Ole Miss's standpoint in the series, I don't think this Sat. will be one of them. The Rebs likely just don't yet have the talent to hang with a very talented and deep Alabama team. The buildup to the game will likely be more exciting than the game itself. Thus, the main reason for this thread. I will be looking for 4 quarters of great effort by my Rebs, and hopefully see a team that plays hard, hits hard, and does not quit --ever. That is all I "expect". Anything better than that will be gravy this year.
Hotty Toddy.

Here's a true story to validate the friendship between Paul W. Bryant and Coach Vaught - back in the early 60's, a certain Ole Miss player (whom I knew personally and passed-away some 18 months ago) once told me he spent a bit too much time in the pool hall back in the day and word got back to Coach. Coach Vaught request this certain player be in his office the next Monday at 8am sharp. He punctually arrives and notifies the secretary of his appointment. She tells him to go on in...as he is walking toward Coach Vaught's desk, there sat a man with his back towards him. Upon arrival, he greets Coach Vaught and recognizes Coach Bryant was also his Monday morning guest. At this time, yes, he was shaking in his boots. According to this former player, the two would meet quite often - even during the season.
Perhaps some bourbon, perhaps a few smokes were shared amongst these two legends.
Would love to here more stories between the two....

Unless Doyle Jackson invented bourbon or beer, I can't blame my behavior in NOLA on him. There was a devil in that whiskey bottle, I'm sure of it, but he wasn't wearing a striped shirt.is what caused all of that lewd behavior in New Orleans

Someone in T-town better check to see if score board will go to three digits? We expect to get hit in the mouth but will finish with our heads up and of coarse toothless. I 'll watch it just the same and unfortunately admiring Saban who is the BEST .

Pretty sure I have met that devil in the bottle myself. At least that is what I have been told, but I don't remember any of the events.Po Monkey Lounger wrote:Unless Doyle Jackson invented bourbon or beer, I can't blame my behavior in NOLA on him.
