Well, this thread about the Ole Miss - Texas game, and the Rebel program, really went to schit.
Interesting to note that there is not a single thread about MSU's big win over Helen of Troy. While there is little doubt that no one else in the world of college football could give two squirts of piss about the MSU v Troy game, does the lack of discussion here on this MSU dominated board indicate: 1) that even the MSU fans (and apparently the players) didn't really care about the game either; or 2) that MSU fans would rather discuss an Ole Miss loss than an MSU win?
Even after 3 straight wins, and a 3-0 start, and a recent ranking in the top 25, the MSU fans here are more worried about someone saying something mildly positive about the struggling Rebel team/program than discussing their own team. Just can't stand it. And the positive comments were all couched in terms of possibility and reasonable/decent chance, not anything close to bragging (as there is nothing really to brag about). Yet, some MSU fans here still like playing the straw man argument game, and exaggerate any positive statements by Rebel fans in order to create something to argue about. Hell, there is no Rebel fan here that would disagree with the premise that the Rebels might not win more than 4 games. I agree. That is certainly a possibility. We may not win more than 3 games. Our own coach has said our program is in the wilderness. No one has predicted much of anything good for the Rebels. When folks say there is a chance to win 6, it means exactly what was said. There is no secret code here that requires deciphering. Based upon the poor play of some of our opponents who we thought were going to be better, there does indeed seem to be a better chance for the Rebels to win 6. In case you haven't noticed, Vandy, Arkansas, and Auburn ain't looking too hot right now. Our schedule, pre-season ranked as one of the toughest in the country, isn't looking quite as daunting right now.
Hell's bells, Arkansas was talking about winning a national title before the season began. And started out the season ranked in the top 10. Arkansas even made a sneaky schedule switchero, moving the Ole Miss game to Little Rock and the LSU game to Fayetteville thinking this move would give them a better chance to beat LSU in their pursuit of the national title. And they didn't think they needed the Ozark home field advantage to easily beat Ole Miss., which historically has played well against the Hogs in Little Rock and will bring a lot of fans (which is why they moved the Ole Miss game to Fayetteville in the first place). I'll bet they are and will be questioning that decision later.
Vandy was talking mighty big before the season began with some prognosticators buying in, but the only team they've beaten so far is Ol Suziannah's blind sisters of the poor. And Auburn certainly was thought to be better than it has shown to-date. The poor QB play at Auburn is rather shocking, to be honest, with a certain deer in headlights, brick throwing quality to it, that I haven't seen since the days of Michael Spurlock at QB for Ole Miss, or any of the 3 QBs who played for MSU during the 2008 Egg Bowl.
Of course, all three of these teams could miraculously get their act together and improve as the season progresses, and the Rebels could succumb as expected. But, I don't think any of these teams will intimidate the Rebel football team this year one bit (or anyone else for that matter).
So, to my MSU brothers here, my advice is to stop worrying about what the Rebels are doing until the Egg Bowl, and turn your concerns toward your own team. Celebrate the big wins against JSU, Auburn and Troy that have the entire college world buzzing. And start dreaming about the Sugar Bowl and that national title Mullen predicted at the SEC media days. Its coming. IMO, ya'll are really, really close (like a midget whisker). MSU should start this season 7-0 with no problem and be well on their way. I've even got an MSU fever, and the prescription is more cowbell.
