Jerry "The King" Lawler

Postby GreenheadJim » Tue Sep 11, 2012 2:16 pm

The King suffered a heart attack last night. He is in stable condition. I remember him as a kid in Memphis. I played softball against him some and he is a straight up guy. Pray for him.

He was the "Bad booty" of the day. I have very fond memories of that guy. Straight up RC Cola and Moonpie type stuff. I can only wish him and his family the best

word around Memphis is that he was without oxygen for a while, and there is brain damage because of it
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

I wonder what really is true.
They are saying he was revived? back stage after it happened. Then they are reporting he has no brain damage or any issues and is doing very well. But now are saying their are problems and stuff with him. It keeps going back and fourth. Like all the news just want to be the 1st to report rather then get it all correct then report.

Either way I hope him the best. I was around them alot when I was little and majority of those guys were very nice and helped alot of people back in the day. Only one I really didnt care about becuase he was donkey was jimmy the heart or whatever his name was. He was the little bitty guy that was their promoter or whatever.
May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.

Local news said he is recovering and no brain damage, his condition had been upgraded. Happened after a match in Canada...prayers sent for The King and a speedy recovery

Tojo Yamamoto. He'd slap ya with his wooden flip-flop sandal.

A former local wrastler here from back in the day told me when he would wrestle with Lawler, the plan was to trade shots for many a minute and let him get a leg-up , but when Ol' Jerry would pull one of the straps off of his wrastlin' suit, that was the indicator that it was time for Lawler to finish the deal.

saw Lawler many times here in the Clarksdale auditorium. Never could figure out why he and superstar bill dundee road to clarksdale together in an ol mazda car and then would fight each other 3 hours later. The dude is an icon in wrestling. For many many years, anybody that got to be bigtime had to come to Memphis first to get the beat down by the king in the Memphis Coliseum. Andre, Hulk, harley Race, Nick Bockwinkel, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, ultimate warrior, etc all got the strap pulled down on em and some got hit with the fire. Great childhood memories!! :D

Hope the king recovers quickly

I watched wrasslin' 6 days straight in 1984 strung up in traction at the hospital in Greenville from a compound fracture to my L humerus (upper bone in my arm) as a 6 yr old. I swear, that was the only thing that got me through it. It's sad, I can't even let my son watch the crap they put on now. Hell, it makes me blush...

Hope The King's OK...
