Our group got a 5'11" and an 11'10". First time for any of us to go, had a blast. Big one was tagged in 2010 by mdwfp and only grew 2" in girth and 1" in length since that time.

 Thats a big creature all the way around but the Swamp People Narrarator would have said 16 feet long 3000 pound monster with a taste for human blood. Swamp people rule add at least a few feet to every gator and multiply actual weight by 4.

I would have pooped myself if I'd a seen that gator anywhere near me.

According to Swamp People, every 12' or bigger is a minimum 950lbs.

I was also in the hunting party that killed the big gator in the pictures. It was an absolute monster and I am not ashamed to say that I was scared to death the whole time we were wrestling with him! We had a blast though and it's a hunt I will never forget.

what exactly is the protocol for
1. catching
2. dispatching
something that big with that many teeth.

I know what they do on swamp people but they do that all the time. I'm wondering how different it is for "non Professionals" to haul one in like that than it is for say a troy landry.

What do yall do with them once you kill them,
are they still good to eat at that size?

Swamp people is an overdramatized portrayal of commrcial alligator fishing. They hook them in the stomach with a hook then shoot it in the head. It's a commercial harvest, not hunting nor a sporting event.

In Mississippi one has to catch the gator with a snag hook (big treble hook you cast and snag the gator with, not using bait on a static line). You can also use a harpoon or Bowfishing rig.

Dispatching is done with a shotgun and birdshot smaller than #6's after you have tired the gator down and secured it with a snare.
