Bad Bad News

Postby laduck » Fri Sep 07, 2012 1:23 pm

My 5 year old lab (Honey Bee) developed a limp in her left front leg last week. I took her to my vet and had her checked out.Test showed that it was osteosarcoma. This is a very aggressive tumor.
Even with treatment options it would only prolong her life for a few months. She has hunted with me for 4 years and the one before her, hunted with me for 12 years. I will make her remaining days as conformable as I can. I am 65 years old and this will be my last lab. Jack

You have a lot of life yet to live, my friend...I've found the best cure for the pain of losing an animal is finding the right one to share time with you in their place.

very sorry to hear.
If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting.

I strongly suggest getting a new pup. I lost my D after 12 years to a brain tumor and there is no way i would have done as well as I have if I didnt get me a new pup. I still tear up watching the new pup work when she does things that reminds me of D.

Sorry to hear about Honey Bee's prognosis, Jack. We've been through our share of heartbreaking experiences with several of our Brittanys and Goldens over the years. There's no way to prepare for such a shock. I remember how you felt after Beouf died - not wanting another one.......or not wanting to loose another one (is more accurate). 'Don't know what to say other than we've been there and feel your pain. Time will heal the heart, my friend. Another dog in the wings helped us through the last one we lost.

Only you know what's right for you, but just know that we're all thinking about what you're going through and wish you the best through this.

That makes my stomach turn Jack. Very sorry to hear about this. I agree with others don't give up on another dog, the pleasure they bring to the world out weighs the problems caused by their short life span.
