Re: Weekend trip
You should fly to NYC Thursday night/Friday (you can fly cheap), many good places to stay relatively cheap, go see a Broadway show and fly home.
Sounds expensive...it really is not.
Word of caution...fly into Lagurdia...cab ride is much cheaper into the city than Kennedy.
I've stayed multiple times at Helmsley Parklane on Central Park South. You can get good rates and walk just about anywhere, including to Broadway shows.
Don't eat at tourist traps...eat where locals eat. Much cheaper.

Re: Weekend trip
I bet there are some nice boutique hotels left in Nola or go to fair hope or seaside
Re: Weekend trip
We go to Grayton Beach every year, so the Destin thing is out. Also, I don't really want to fly/drive all day. I'm thinking either Fairhope or Hot Springs, cause I can drive there in 3-4 hours. Leaning towards Hot Springs but I'm not finding anything but your run of the mill hotels to stay in in town. Any suggestions? If I go with Fairhope, I was thinkning Point Clear... Anyone stayed there? As much as I'd like to hop on a plane and go to NY or SF, I'd rather save that for more than a 60 hour trip.

If you go to hot springs there are houses on lake Hamilton that are fairly reasonable to rent. You could also rent a house in hot springs village, but it's about 20 minutes to town from the village. If you go, eat at Rods pizza cellar and get the godfather...

Chicago- Like previously stated you can fly there cheap or take the train. Lots to do there, one of our favorite Big City places to go. Not as much to do vs NYC but much less expensive, cleaner and safer. Weather will be nice in October.
Re: Weekend trip
If not Grayton area I say Chicago also. Just got back and we loved it. Go to Wrigley and eat at Salt and Pepper just outside entrance for breakfast if early game. Clean city with some of the best food I ever had.

Re: Weekend trip
I was in Fairhope a few weeks ago for a conference and stayed at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear. My wife enjoyed the shopping in Fairhope and there are some great restaurants in the area. If you decide on Fairhope, make sure you have dinner at The Wash House in Point Clear, just down the road from the Grand. Upscale dining in a casual atmosphere that both of you will enjoy.

Re: Weekend trip
I live in Fairhope. Grand Hotel has a spa, golf club. Wash House restaurant is good. Other than that there's not much to do but shop.
Re: Weekend trip
The Grand Hotel in Point Clear Al. which is just south of Fairhope. A very nice place to just spend the weekend.
Re: Weekend trip
Have y'all done the Alluvian couples spa package? They also have the cooking school deals through there.

If you could come to NTZ the next weekend you would definitely enjoy the Great Mississippi River Balloon Races, Pat Green, North MS All Stars, and Anders Osborne.
Dunleith is nice but the Briarvue is better simply because of the view, on the highest point of the bluff overlooking the bridge to the north. ( I know the owners so pm me if you need help)
Dunleith's food is phenomal along with many others.
Come see us.

Re: Weekend trip
Whenever I go to Hot Springs I stay at the Arlington Hotel downtown. You can walk and see all the touristy stuff from it. Definetly hit Rods pizza cellar!!! That place is awesome, but the godfather pizza scares the crap out of me. When you order a large godfather and your waitress asks if other people are coming or if you have a room in hot springs because there is no way you will finish it in a day you know it's some serious pizza.dukhntn wrote:If you go to hot springs there are houses on lake Hamilton that are fairly reasonable to rent.
