Ask DS: Moving to Ohio

Postby woundedduck » Wed Aug 22, 2012 6:36 am

I am moving to the Akron area for my new job in the oil and gas business. Any suggestions on food, hunting, things to do/not to do would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

I always thought there was some good deer hunting up that way. But itsn't that one of those states where you have to use a pistol cartridge or a shotgun/Bow??

Akron! We are building a new 65,000 sq ft manufacturing shop in Youngstown.

Who you going work for? What all do you do? Any interest in moving? :)

Lake Erie to the north of you, good small mouth, walleye, and perch fishing. Duck hunting will be depressing when you leave Ms and hunt Ohio. Goose hunting in that area should be pretty good though. Excellent deer hunting pretty much anywhere in Ohio. Pro football hall of fame is in Akron. Cleveland is a short drive north, all kinds of stuff to do there. If you have trouble finding places to hunt hit me up when you get in the area, I have family that lives just south of Akron that own dairy farms, I might be able to get you in on them. Good luck with the new job, that field is booming right now here in Ohio.

Lived in Cleveland for 7 years, loved just about every minute of it. Good schools, great deer hunting, still some upland game, Lake Erie is great for all things water, TONS of golf. It was a great time in my life for sure, best of luck...PM me if you have any questions.

We ran out of money on my last project in Texas. It only lasted 6 months. And I was in Denver for 10 months. Left there for greener pastures. Its the nature of this business, Sam. I couldn't do it if I were married and had children. I only get to go home once a month on their dime. But I am single, and every new town is an adventure. I love it! I will settle in to Mississippi again someday, but I am having a blast. If any of y'all are planning on coming out this way, I will be more than happy to put you up. I am in New Philadelphia, Ohio. It's the Eastern Seagate into Amish country! I must have seen 30 Amish families at Walmart, today. It was weird! 70 miles South of Cleveland, 90 miles West of Pittsburgh and about 100 miles East of Columbus. I have some serious exploring to do!

Go get you some Amish wine!!!!!

They can't drink it, but they can make and sell it.
