Bear at Kroger in Vicksburg
Re: Bear at Kroger in Vicksburg
Had it been a female bear I'd say she was in town for the grand opening of TJ Maxx, but since it is a male bear he's probably there for the new Asian massage parlor...

Re: Bear at Kroger in Vicksburg
I spent on summer in Alaska working at the confluence of the Russian and Kenai Rivers. There were bears all over the place there black and coastal brown bears(big brother of grizzly and little brother of kodiak). First couple of times I encountered some I was pretty scared. After about two weeks I did not pay them much attention unless cubs were around. The chance of them attacking someone is very slim. Most attacks come from sneaking up on a bear and startling it or from people harassing them. The Bigest risk of getting attack would probably be for hunters since you are trying to be quiet heading to the stand but more than likely you would never get close enough to startle one unless you had a very clear trail to walk down. We had a mom with three cubs in the area that never bothered anyone then some idiot decided to shot the mom and just leave her laying. Of course then the cubs were charging people that came near(never actually attacked) but they were only protecting there mother. I had to go in with the game wardens and help run the cubs off so we could put the mom on a stretcher and walk her out to an opening on the river bank and air lift her out with a helicopter. They caught the SOB that shot her but I am sure he did not get what he deserved. After that the cubs were a nuisance since they did not have there mom to keep them in check. She usually kept them away from groups of people but with out her they were up in the middle of everything. Anyway point is they are really not much of a threat and I hope they make a good come back here because they are really fun to watch playing around in the wild. Very funny animals.

I really hope they make a come back, however, I have never had the urge to go on a bear hunt.

Do you not realized that bear most likely dispersed from Diamond Island or Tensas. Not 2 miles from that parking lock is the other side of the MS river and is pretty dang remote. Being that the river is at all time lows it would have taken him a whole 15 minutes to swim the river. After swimming the river it would have taken a whole 5 minute walk to be at Kroger.

Nobody owes you anything.
Re: Bear at Kroger in Vicksburg
Thats probably true, but I think Mississippi has a fighting chance. The hill country could support a relatively large population. Some states have bear hunting. Georgia has a bear hunting season. Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina have liberal seasons. South Carolina has a quota hunt system for bear. Florida is studying its options for opening up a quota hunt.blgros1 wrote: I very much doubt the huntable population thing. We have bears all over south la and and the only thing ever mentioned is how to preserve them.
Re: Bear at Kroger in Vicksburg
So how does this disprove what I am saying? There are a few bears out there at the moment. When there are more, you will see more showing up in town digging through the trash, and for the record I never said any thing about bears mauling people. Now get back to your hooked on phonics.peewee wrote:kb7722 wrote:Dick Cox wrote:Them things aint going to be nothing but a big pain in the ars!! I agree. Go ahead and get ready to lock up our garbage cans.
We are just now getting the population started and one has already shown up in town. What do you think will happen when the population is well established?

DICK COXXXXSS... you are an idiot.
I suppose some of you are the ones who believe there should be a law everytime something remotely dangerous comes up. Probably the types that carry a SPOT locating system with you when you venture down the Natchez Trace. Pussies.

Damn bears are everywhere where I teach. The kids say the bears are a huge pain in the booty
Re: Bear at Kroger in Vicksburg
Huge pain down here also. In the Morgan City, La area everybody has bear proof trash cans because of all the activity in city limits. Constantly having to call LWF to come relocate or shoot them with non-lethal loads to scare them off. Up north of BR,la where many of my padnas live and we deer hunt, we see them while hunting all the time. 2 yrs ago I was on stand and a big 300# BB wouldnt leave my plot. I finally just got off stand and when he saw me he easied off. They just real curiuos animalshntrpat1 wrote:Damn bears are everywhere where I teach.
