Lightweight/comfortable climber?

Postby cagoodwn » Tue Jul 31, 2012 3:38 pm

Is there such a thing? I've got an older summit right now and nothing wrong with it except its a little on the heavy side. Looking to get a super lightweight one I can carry long distances. Also needs to be fairly comfortable and quiet. Really something I can sit/stand in for 3-4 hrs. Been looking at the new Summit Specialist. Don't want to break the bank with a Lone Wolf. Any thoughts?

I have always been really comfortable in Ol Man stands, and I never really had a problem with their weight. They have a lightweight version...carbon something maybe?? anyway if I were in the market for a lightweight climbing stand that's what I would get.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

the summits are the most comfortable stands on the market right now, but they are a complete PAIN IN THE @SS to tote in and out of the woods. For the all day sits, I use a summit or millenium, depending on the tree. The millenium climbing stand was a waste of money although its just as comfortable as the loc ons, it doesn't have the leg room I would like. I wish I could get that $400 back.

You can buy Ol Man's all day long on craigslist for $40. invest in a grinder and sharpen the teeth and wear a safety harness. I've got 11 of them that I leave hanging all over the place.

for comfort - summit
for ease of use and 4-5 hour manageable sits - Ol' Man

Ol man use to make an aluminum climber that was about 10 pounds. I wish I could find one. I bought some tires from a guy on here that had two of them and I begged him for one and he wouldn't sell it. Maybe he will chime in with the name of it.

I've got one of those Summit open front climbers and love it. It's light, easy to setup and comfortable. I have a bunch of other climbers but that open front Summit would be the one to pack in for a long walk.

Ok thanks. I'll check out all the above. Are the new summits a pain in the booty to pack in and out?

you are correct, Ol'Man is back in Mississippi.

We sell tons of ol'man's and a few Summits. Last year, I "demo'd" one of the new Ol'Man Alumalite CTS's (about 10 pounds lighter than the originals) and it's really, really nice for packing in and out. This year, they've added the Hex Drive system and integrated call/accessory holders onto it to make the Drone, very, very nice stand. As far as lightweight, that CTS is the cat's pajamas.
Sun rise in the east.... and it sets up in the West, yes the sun rise in east baby, and it sets up in the west..... It's hard to tell, hard to tell, hard to tell, which one, which one I love best.....

the drone is 1 lb heavier than alumalite at 22 lbs, I'd imagine you can't feel much difference...is that correct? I haven't seen them in person but the Drone looks like the bees knees...I have the Aluminum Multi-Vision, regular size not grand...it's lightest rated Ol Man at 19 lbs...it's night and day between this and the orignial ol man stands from years back that slipped so bad...I love it and I have a Summit too...no comparison in the overall of packing, setting up, climbing, and over all comfort...Summit edges in only ONE category...

Will the new ol' man bite the tree worth a chit? The old ones arent in the same ballpark with Summit in terms of stability and grip on tree. I slid 4 feet down a tree one day in an old man, sold it the next day.

Ive got Summit and Treewalker now. The Treewalker is really nice. It packs like the old man but has much better grip. Also comes with shooting rest and footrest, and weighs about 18 lbs. Made in America too.
