I'm about to get back into working out, think I'll try P90X. I worked out 5 days a week for 10 years straight, never took more than 2 weeks off in that time, then I just quit in December, 2010....haven't touched a weight since. I stayed around 205, now I stay around 220...gotta get my lazy booty in shape.

Well, no cross fit in Columbus. So back to drawing board.

I weighed 165 when I got married, now 178. Not too bad, but at 5'9 I want to get back to about 170 and hold it.

Let me tell you when you can find time. 4:00 am, get it done early and get it out of the way. It energizes the rest of your day and you can't make excuses. Lunches, if you get 1:00, throw some clothes in a gym bag and take off on a run. May only be a mile or two but those miles add up.

Do you watch TV, throw that crap time away. I have had people ridicule me for the amount of time I workout. When I ask them to add up the hours per week (including weekends) their hobby far exceeds mine. If your kids practice sports you can sit on the sideline and shoot the bull with your buddies or you can run the track/field. Knocks out 2 birds with one stone. There is all kinds of ways to find time. Sunday mornings are my long runs. I have found time to get them in and get back home, help get the kids ready and take them to church.

I agree. I get up at 4:50 am and do the P90X workout. Showered and dressed before the kids wake up. Have tons of free time after work to play with the kids.

It does take some getting used to waking up that early, but you get adjusted. Plus you are getting prepared for the early alarm at the camp!

I ain't gonna ride no bike......i'll just run beside ya'. Them bike are dangerous. Just bring a pair of shorts so you can cover up those nut huggers that you wear. It might be cool with your biking buddies, but no place for that in deer or turkey camp!!

First off let me tell you that what ever workout you decide to do will help to improve your overall health and life.....that is if you stick to it. I am a huge fitness/health guy. (Kinda have to be in the Corps) I have done P90X, Insanity, traditional lifting, and even joined a Crossfit gym. First thing first, DIET!!!!! I can't tell you how many people I see that join a gym or order a workout off tv, start it on a Monday and for supper that night have drive thru double cheese burger. That ain't gonn fly. I order to lose weight you need to burn more than you are taking in. Plus eat 5-6 meals a day and drink .6-1.1 oz of water for every pound you weigh a day. (yes I know if you are really heavy that isn't gonna happen, rule of thumb is just drink a gallon a day) Try to consume most of your daily calories before 2-3 PM. Also try not to eat after 7-8 PM depending on when you go to bed. Try to get lots of sleep, (I know with a job, family, heck just life rest is the last think on our minds). Also depending on your age you might have low test levels. Because they say every year after a man hits 25 his levels start dropping off. Might need to look into that. Ok enough about that...workouts, I agree with what others have said, get up early and get if over with. Only problem is that takes A LOT OF MOTOVATION!!! but you can go the rest of the day knowing the worst is behind you. P90X is a great "starter workout". Reason I say started is because it is a more slower paced setup than others and it introduces you to new things. My wife and I did it while I was stationed in GA. She is 5'4" really small frame and I am 6'0" and we were what I would say really good shape. Doing P90X we both toned up a good bit and got stronger in the upper body, but didn't really help our cardio/endurance. Oh keep in mind thru all these workouts we were on strict diets. Then we both did Insanity when I was stationed in CA. It was harder on the knees than P90X, but our cardio/endurance increased along with tone. I really didn't see and strength increases but she did mainly because shes a small female anyways. In between the two we would do traditonal lifting. We both saw strength and physical apperance gains/changes, but to me it was just BORING going to the gym and doing the same stuff every week with the only thing changing was the weight. I recently have joined a Crossfit gym and WOW is all I can say. I have been doing it about a month now ( 4 days a week) and I don't think I have done the same workout twice yet. The motovation level there is crazy. The coaches and other people workout push each other to give their all. It has everything I have wanted in fitness. I get strength, flexibilty, definition, endurance, cardio, etc. Not to mention we all treat it like a competition and so it gives you a sense of pride when you out do someone else. Ok I know I have talked enough about this. I just want to say that these are my personal experiences with this stuff. I know people who have done the exact same thing as me and hate stuff I like and love stuff I hate. Just find something and stick to it. Mississippi has the highest obesity rate of any other state. It bothers me when I come home to visit friends and family and I seem them harming if not killing theirselves with the way the eat and the way they don't take care of what God gave them. I am a Christian and I truely believe that your body is a temple for God. What if he came back and saw you not taking care of his temple?

Excellent post, what scares me is that we as Mississippians have set our youth up for a tough life (health wise) ahead. Think back (30 and 40 year olds) at your childhood and think about how many of your friends were obese. Not many I bet, now look around our neighborhoods and schools. Fast food has become a way of life and it is KILLING US. We don't eat as family's anymore and our moral society is failing b/c of it. I have been on both sides, I got huge but I decided to turn my life around. I am much happier now I garantee due to that life changing decision.

I jumped on the P90X wagon and held true to the diet and exercise. At the end of six weeks I had lost 15 pounds and was in pretty good shape, only problem is I'm 5'10" and started out at 180 pounds.... I personally don't like being that skinny and it's hard to commit 1 1/2 hours a day to working out when your work day starts at 5:30. I can handle a 4:30 wake up call every day but not a 3:30 or 4:00.

I've heard really good things about Cross Fit just haven't started yet. Don't know that they have (or I would attend) a Cross Fit gym in Greenville, MS.

Here is a map showing the CrossFit affiliated gyms. Keep in mind some gyms might have "crossfit" workouts but if they are not on this map then they are not a real CrossFit affiliate gym. Just type your town and then zoom out to see where the closest is to you. There are not that many in MS. :(
