Memphis
Headed to memphis for the weekend any suggestions? Hotels, things to do, eats, etc..... My kids are big into baseball so was thinking about doing the redbirds game. Meeting my parents there so they can spoil my kids for 2 weeks and drop them back off. We always drive through on our way home and the kids always want to stop(don't ask me why), but figured this was a good excuse to finally let them see more of memphis.

The Memphis Zoo is one of the best in the Country.

Without a doubt - a Redbirds game is a must. If just you and Momma, also Flying Saucer for huge selection of beers. Evening dining - for you and Momma, try the Flight - both within easy walking distance of the Peabody, which is across the street from the stadium. Huey's also for casual burger dining a block west of the Peabody.

The Southaven exit has plenty of clean reasonably priced hotels and is minutes from Memphis...I put people up at the Days Inn behind Cracker Barrel and Check E Cheese during hurricanes. Fridge and microwaves in all rooms. Check out Bass Pro, Beale St and the Pink Palace... have your ac serviced...its freakin' hot brotha. Y'all have fun

Except in the wintertime. It gets cold and they wither have to stay in the cold, or pay a cover to get warm....alot less darkies harrasing white folks in the winter.

Re: Memphis
The best Italian food you will ever eat can be found at Pete and Sams near the corner of Park and Getwell. The best Mexican food is close by at Las Delicious. Good BBQ can be found anywhere, but try Interstate or Central Barbeque if you want to stay away from the main stream Rendevous and Corky's. If you are looking for white table cloth try Paulettes on Mud Island.

IF you happen to be into pocket billiards (9 ball etc) there is a HUGE pool tournament going on down at Harrah's all this week, and the finals will be Saturday. The best players in the world are here for this event, it's being videoed for tv and dvd's. Johnny Archer, Shane van Boning, Earl Strickland, Dennis Orcollo, Shannon Daulton, Efren Reyes, Alex Pagulayan, Jonathan Pinegar, Darren Appleton (world #1 pro), and this is just the short list.

It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

We eat here http://www.40meatballs.com/ every time we go down town.. We park down next to the river and ride the trolley.
Great food and just a nice place to go IMO..
Might be better to wait till cooler weather to ride the trolley tho..

If your downtown Gus's has some excellent fried chicken. Headed further east of downtown on poplar The Belmont is good for a casual burger and a drink. It's kind of like an older Huey's. If you do the responsible move and stay in Southaven you'll need to swing by Memphis Barbeque Company.
