I didn't mean to get on a soap box before. I am a big fan and also an employee of the Athletic Dept so it just disappoints me to read comments like that. The Captain wrote:That makes me feel better , it's still an ugly picture , guess I should have read the book first . Re: Ole Miss
He was a Houston Nutt signee and Houston Nutt was in the "people heppin business"....he liked the thugs...he signed Jamal Hornsby, took alot of heat for it because he was a known thug that was kicked off Florida's team...not long after signing day he was arrested again for beating a guys booty at the McDonald's in Starkville and who knows where he is now...Tig Barksdale was another one....he would take chances if the player was talented enough but 9 times out of 10 they don't work out.farmerc83 wrote:And here is why they were arrested. Anyone know why OM took a second string TE that had gotten kicked off the team at OSU for two allegations of rape? Maybe I missed it, but don't remember that making much of a splash.SNOT wrote:There's a bunch more on the team....here's a couple geniuses that got arrested and of course it's only because they're black.iron grip wrote:I'm sure they just rounded up the one and only black guy that's on the team for the photo... just showing the cultural diversity and all. I mean don't you think with any more of 'em on the team they'd win a couple games?

Yep, Freeze is looking at Akeel Lynch, a running back that Ole Miss made an offer to, but he chose to go to Penn State.Greenhead22 wrote:Freeze is about to be in the people helping business also with contacting Penn State players.
MSU is looking at QB Steven Bench, who they had recruited heavily before he committed to Penn State.
Mark Richt of UGA stated that they are looking over the Penn State roster, but have not commented on who they have made contact with.

That book needs a fn haircut.
Re: Ole Miss
He may be a great kid but he still needs a haircut and a shave. That goes for players on every team, not just the bears. Very few of them will make it in the NFL. How many of you would hire someone that walked into an interview looking like that or with tattoos all over their arms?
Re: Ole Miss
HE may be a good guy crazyjoe, but first impressions mean everything and stereotypes are based on reality. He looks like a damn fool, even if you say he isn't one, he sure looks the part. Like Big Oak said, it aint just him. But he is the one on the cover so he gets to catch the flak. He looks like a damn idiot, and the other two pictured on this post, well, they need shooting

Re: Ole Miss
Let me start off by saying I agree with some of yall and don't with others. I grew up in dixie and so I was raised right.
I joined the Marine Corps and have be stationed everywhere from East Coast to West Coast and been all the way around the world a few times. I was raised that tattoos were horrible thing and long hair and beards were, well, nasty and that person probably wasn't on the up and up. I have seen the way other people was raised from the rest of our nation and have had the privilege of serving with some of Americas bravest young men, most of which have more percent of their body tattooed than not. I agree that sometimes tattoos and long nasty hair/beard are not the most professional thing, but that doesn't mean that person behind all that is not professional. It took getting away from the Southern ways for me too see that. I was sent this picture in an email and it is a true statement. Also what about these guys. I have met Phil a couple times and he along with his boys are some of the nicest you will meet. All I am saying is until you get to know them give them a chance. You might not know what they have been through. Last thing, I know a Marine that has the name of every Marine he knew who died defending our freedom tattooed on his arms. From a distance you would look and be like wow that is nasty or he must be a drug/crime guy, but what you don't know is he has seen things and seen more death than anyone should ever have to see.

Re: Ole Miss
Here's the way I see it - it sucks that people judge people by how they present themselves but if you don't know that person that is all that you have to go off of. So why would you intentionally look like the people that commit most of the crimes? If Mike Marry is a great student and great kid, that's great, but he is choosing to be stereotyped by looking like a typical thug, that's HIS choice - but if a gas station clerk doesn't know who the hell Mike Marry is and sees him walk into his gas station at midnight he will watch him close because he looks like 95% of the other thugs that have robbed his store before. Not saying that most people that look like a thug are criminals - what I am saying is that most people that commit crimes look like a thug so people will naturally "sterotype" a guy that looks and dresses like a thug and that's just human nature. One of the many reasons our country is the way it is, is because we have been told that stereotyping is terrible and racist.....that's bull$hit! Stereotyping is what can keep you alive - if a woman is riding through downtown Jackson at night and she sees 5 thugs with their pants hanging down to their booty with gold teeth and wife beaters on walking towards her car I would hope she would lock her doors because she IS stereotyping and protecting herself and she doesn't want to get carjacked, raped or whatever.
We can't sterotype people that look like Muslim terrorists in airports so 80 year old women and 4 year old kids are just as likely to get searched as a Middle Eastern guy with a white robe on and a towel on his head. Not all Muslims arre terrorists but most terrorists arre Muslims and the peaceful Muslim looks and dresses just like the Muslim terrorist.
We've been told not to stereotype for so long and the people, black or white, that CHOOSE to look like a criminal are told that it's not their fault for getting looked at harder than a person that chooses NOT to look like a criminal. Well, it is their fault because it was a choice and there are consequences for personel choices and in this instance that consequence is being labeled a thug. His fault, not mine. There is such a thing as consequences and accountability, unfortunatly the ones who choose to look like a thug or act like a thug have been told their whole life that everyone else is the problem and not them.
It is your choice to look like a criminal, it is my choice to assume you are until I know you're not - because, like I said earlier, that's all I have to go on.

Just like wearing a marajuana leaf around your neck and a shirt that says "HOES" probably doesn't help your chances when the cops show up. Not saying that alone is reason to be arrested or that they were even wearing that when arrested, but it would get a cops attention more than just being black.
