Not to hijack thread but I figured you guys would know...is Mississippi still a legel open carry state? I have read where some say it is some say it isn't. From the way I interpret the law it is still legal to open carry.

I consider it like on your side just like a cop. Inside your truck isn't open or concealed from what I was told or have read. Inside a vic is a extended part of your home. I might be wrong tho.

I bet your are 100% correct.
Article 3, Section 12. Right to bear arms.
The right of every citizen to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person, or property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall not be called in question, but the legislature may regulate or forbid carrying concealed weapons.
I take this to mean they can't stop me from carrying open but they can regulate/forbid me to carry concealed.

I don't remember the exact wording but the law is perfectly written so that it can be used to fit the situation, but technically no. There is some wording in there about it being illegal to carry a gun "concealed in whole or in part" without a permit. So if you don't have a permit and have a gun in a holster in open sight a court would say that you were illegally carrying a gun that was concealed in part. I have heard of a case where a guy had a small pistol with a tether loop on the grip hanging from a lanyard around his neck. They said that the portion covered by the lanyard was concealed and busted him.
On the other hand if you do have a permit and are carrying in open sight they are probably gonna bust you for that too since there is no "gunslinger" law in Mississippi per se.

I live 2 miles across MS state line in AL. Would my CC permit be accepted in MS? Can I get an MS permit with an AL drivers license?

I also read the same case. Just kinda a gray area.

I got my permit last Wednesday in New Albany and I asked the question if I could carry a pistol like he was wearing it (on the hip) and he quickly said NO, It is illegal.. So I personally will not be carrying it on my hip in public like a normal officer wears it.landscaper wrote:DIXIE HUNTER wrote:Not to hijack thread but I figured you guys would know...is Mississippi still a legel open carry state? Also be sure to check the dates when the offices are open. They are not open every day of the week.

For what it's worth, I've been carrying a full size 1911 for 3 years now, and never been busted. I use a Tucker Gunleather IWB. holster and it is really comfortable. I usually leave my shirt untucked, but it works while tucked in too.

I have been carrying a LCP in a wallet holster in my back pocket for probably 2 years now and it feels funny if I don't have it. - John

There is an older fellow in my hometown who openly carries around a hog leg of a 44 magnum. I'm talking damn near to his knee cap. You ought to see the afro americans when he comes around in a place like Auto Zone. I was there one day getting some oil and he walked in wearing it. Blacks started leaving left and right. I was once told by a judge it is legal to open carry. Now that judge was from Tallahatchie county so take it for what it is worth.
