Muscadine WMA ( SB ) ????

Postby limit6 » Mon Dec 17, 2001 4:39 pm

Just wondering how the hunt went 12/15. Have a draw there for 12/22. As for my hunt, 3 woodies harvested, only saw one group of big ducks and they didn't see me!!

No birds were harvested. They were there till the hunters went to ponds and were scared out. They never showed back up. To much water in that ocean up there and no cold weather up north.

Is this a brand new WMA or something? I hear it's over by Percy.

i too am interested in how the hunting is going on muscadine as i have hunts on 1/8 and 1/12...wingman, i understand that it was old farmland that the gov't took over and has managed it for years...to my understanding, this is the first time in years that people have been able to hunt it and it is only by lottery, much like noxabee...that's what i know, i was so excited about the hunt i failed to really learn the places' history...if anyone else has any info. please let us know...

You are correct about what you said. I understand that it was once a catfish farm and it is composed of 600 acres of water in catfish ponds. If I'm not mistaken they have it planted in millet this year. SB may be able to give clarification to that.
Hunting is by draw only, and each party selected to hunt will be assigned two ponds they can hunt on their day. Hunting is only until 12:00 and there is a 25 shell limit.

Wingman,

Yes and yes. It is a new WMA. Too new to be hunting it, but we are anyway.

Seems to be quite a few of these small refuges popping up. Not sure if some of them will ever be opened to the public.
