I guess it's just me. I have a problem with the government dictating things to me. I tend to like to rule my own life and make my own decisions. I dang sure don't need a politician in his ivory tower in Washington to tell me how to do it.

I'm all for caring for people and providing care where it's needed, but I don't think that's big brother's job. If you think the government does a good job of healthcare, just ask anybody in the health care field how many regulations they already have to follow and how "easy" medicare is to deal with. That's our future times 100.

The whole premise to this bill was false from the beginning. Nobody was denied care. If you broke your arm or got shot you got taken care of, regardless of ability to pay.

The residents of Massachusetts seem to really like romneycare and it's been in effect for six years now.

And that's all fine and good. States should be able to make that decision on their own. It's not the federal government's job or constitutional role to force people into buying things. That's the crux of this whole deal. Let Massachusetts do what they want. Let Mississippi do what they want. That's federalism at its finest. I have no problem with that.

The ruling by the Supreme Court today, gives very broad power to the Federal Government under this courts interpretation of the Commerce Clause.

You may want to read the opinion. Justice Roberts wrote that there is no basis for the individual mandate under the commerce clause but rather the authority is derived from the powers of taxation as enumerated in the Constitution. The Court was presented with two issues: whether the individual mandate was constitutional and whether the Medicaid expansion provision was constitutional.

Justice Roberts wrote the following in the opinions preface with regard to the Court's role in determining the constitutionality of the case.
"Members of this Court are vested with the authority to interpret the law; we possess neither the expertise nor the prerogative to make policy judgments. Those decisions are entrusted to our Nation’s elected leaders, who can be thrown out of office if the people disagree with them. It is not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices."

I agree with everything that is being said here. I am about as conservative as they come. Here is a question. What do we do about those that do not have insurance and go to the emergency room and basically get free healthcare? Well, free for them but we end up paying for it. That is the real problem.

Another thought - this decision and this bill change the focus of healthcare from patient based to whatever best benefits the government system. How anybody can think putting the government above the individual is a good thing is beyond me. Then again, I'm not a communist.

We have this election to get the Obamacare supporters voted out and get this repealed or amended to where it works to actually help everyone without putting more burden on the working people. I don't think anyone on here denies something needs to change to make healthcare more affordable and attainable. Maybe Obamacare is just the first step and Congress can work out a better solution. We had to start somewhere albeit this wasn't a good start but a start.

So why is it the right decision for Massachusetts, but the end of the world for the country? because a democrat proposed it?

The issue here is not Health insurance, Or a particular state. Massachusetts is just like very other state in the union, they have those that work, pay taxes, and drive the economy, and they have those people that think they are entiltled to something free from the government.

Only half of americans pay income taxes.

the other half use our tax money to live, the government issues it to them in various forms. If a person can not afford health insurance, the government will provide them with it. its just more tax payers money that will be given to the people, we are already a bizzillion dollars in debt - how will America Afford this?? its simple - USA cannot afford it - we are broke


The non Tax payers will continue to vote for liberal blood suckers that are robbing the US treasuery and giving it back to the people who piss it in the wind.

and most of us will work for the rest of our life to pay for it.

i can sum it up in a few words and it has nothing to do with politics, its deeper rooted than that.
