How is the lease life going? I know by now you miss getting up at 2 and fighting for a spot to hunt. Naw, seriously, has it been as slow for ya'll as it has for us? If you get bored, shoot me an e-mail and we'll hook up somewhere...

Harrel, the lease has everthing but the main ingredient.......ducks. I've had my fill of sittin' in a pit, waitin' for birds to come to us. That's my main objection to pit hunting. But I HAVE seen a lot of birds, traveling. We just persistent (dumb) enough to keep thinkin' "today's the DAY". It'll be great, once the ducks finally get here, but right now, we're just as frustrated as everyone else.

I'm goin' back to freelancin' on the river for a while....'see if there's anything in my usual spots. The Delta is so fulla water and there's not enough ducks to make it interesting, right now. 'Gonna give the 'pit' a rest.

I haven't seen anything flyin' in ya'lls direction, yet. Maybe around Christmas, we'll have a different story. Keep in touch! Good Luck! Keep your powder dry and BURN their BUTTS when they get here!

Oh yeah.......we've killed more MICE at 'camp', than ducks. That's how SLOW it is, right now! I killed 2 skunks one night.....20yds from the 'feather barrel'. ('Hated to use steel shot, but was all that was handy at the time.)

We've seen more severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado watches, than mallards. 'Wanta know anything else?

Anatidae:

Well, sounds like things are really slow over at the camp. Things will get better....hopefully by the end of this week. It looks like colder weather is moving in up North. Anyway, I've hunted 2 mornings and killed one duck. I'm glad I had Remi with me, or I may have never found that duck either.

By the way, are you still in town?

Anat,

have not heard good reports around there from the river, other than a few here and there. I'm sure you have been to all the hot spots and have a few tied up though by now. Is the island accessible from the main river now that the water is up, or is it up that high. If all else fails, you could go watch the 1000's ducks go to roost about a mile from your house. Who in the hayell knows where they go during the daytime, but by golly they are there at night by the buttloads. As a matta -a-fact, are you aware of that place? Be a great place to go about 5pm to sit on the road and count them dive in to the holding lake to give you an indicator if there are many ducks in the area.
