I started out with a 410 single shot and 7 1/2's
Moved up to a Winchester 20ga pump with 7 1/2's
To a 870 12ga w/ 8's
Now I shoot a O/U 12 w/ 8's, we'll see how I fair with the O/U this year.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Well, I usually shoot #8 shot for doves. If, late in the season #8's are sold out and 7 1/2's are all thats available I'll shoot them. There really isn't that much difference in them I don't believe, and since a dove is such a hard target to knock down generally speaking I prefer to have as many pellets in the pattern as I can get. #9's are not readily available at all so I don't shoot them...I do most of my dove shell purchases at wally world, and I can't remember seeing any #9's there ever. Oh yeah, this is all done through a 12 ga.

I shoot 7.5's because my guns pattern them best. Dad's loves #9's with a passion.

Like Goosebruce said awhile back.......7.5's and 9's have their place in the dove field.......8's are just "illegitimate child" shot.....

As for steel.......2's and 4's have their place in the duckhole.......3's are also "illegitimate child" shot.....

Kinda funny.......always preferred #3's in the duckhole...

I use 8's. 20 and 12 gauge. 20 gauge has one full choke and one mod. barrel. Like to shoot 20 at dove's. 8)

I like 3 1/4dr 1 1/8oz 8 shot. I would shoot 9's but I don't like biting into lead when I eat doves.

i use whatever they have on sale at the nearest sporting goods dealer to me  i can't afford to be picky when it comes to shootin at dove birds, sometimes i can limit out with a box, sometimes it takes a box to get 2 or 3

7 & 1/2. Prefferably something like a Win AA super sport in 1 & 1/8 ounce through an I/M and full choke.

The last time I checked the national average birds per box of shells was in the 2.7-3.2 per 25 range...

I can usually get a limit with less than 2 boxes of high brass.

You've GOT t' be kiddin'.......That's downright pitiful!  If I couldn't shoot any better than that, I sure wouldn't tell anybody. :?

Ideally......28ga IC/Mod with 2-1/4dram 3/4oz 9's

Typically....... 20ga Cyl/ IC with 2-1/4dram 8's

Rare-lly........410 sk/sk with skeet 9's

Desparate-lly....12ga IC with 3 dram 1-1/8oz 8's

I'm not inclined to 'shoot' doves with anything that requires tighter than a IC choke or a heavier load than a light field load. I take the same approach to dove hunting that I do to duck hunting.......if they'ere not close enough....don't shoot.

'Judge'.....what would I have to do to get on one of those 410 hunts you talkin' about? You must have a heckuva field up there. 'Sounds like ya'll will have a good time. Happy Hunting....glad you're back!
