chan was one of the coolest cats to walk this planet. he embodied the "shirt off his back" spirit.
the first time i ever met chan was at old venice in jackson for one of the old monthly gatherings. he had just gotten back from argentina and i was headed to montana in the fall to hunt and do some fly fishing. we carried on a long conversation on some of the waters we'd fished. the red wine he was drinking left the door open for a young, mouthy kid (me) to pick on everything from his manhood to his obvious lack of bone structure in his wrists....he returned with better jokes and better personal jabs - a master at his work.
sometime later that week he sent me a pm on here stating he had a fly rod for me if i wanted it......i barely knew him and talked to several others on here trying to figure out if the rod was "hot" or not....most laughed and said stuff like "the dude's probably got a room of that junk, he's good for it."
so, i met him at the gas station across from the coliseum and he handed me as fine a fly rod as a man will ever tote - a 5 wt thomas and thomas. he wouldn't take a dime for it and the time or two i tried to give ti back after the trip he wouldn't either......
was actually thinking the other day that i wish he'd start posting on here again.....just goes to show what a brief flicker our lives are.
rest in peace chan, gator

Someone pm me with what happened with Chan. Can't believe the man is gone!
"Live, so that when your time comes to join the innumerable caravan,
You go, not like a quarry slave scourged to his dungeon,
But, like one who, served by an unfaltering trust,
Wraps the draperies of his couch about him,
And lies down to pleasant dreams."
See you on the other side, Chan.

Never actually met him, but several years ago I had bought a Benelli Nova *first year they came out) and had let water get in behind the cap screw on the barrel. It froze and busted, could not find one anywhere. Bankermane, did not know me from Adam but i had a bunch of pay hunters coming in and that was the only gun I had working at the time and he said he had a Black Benelli Nova he was not using and he would take off the cap if it would help me. I told him one of my guides lived in Jackson and would pick it up. I tried to pay him for it and he would not take payment. That black cap is still on my nova. RIP buddy not many people willing to help someone out nowadays. You will be missed.

I didn't know the man but, I always enjoyed reading his posts...From what I have read here written by folks that did know Bankermane, I'd have to say it's my misfortune that I never met him...It really speaks well of a man when so many folks have a kind word to speak on his behalf...Rest easy and Godspeed, Bankermane...you are already missed...

First time I met him was Highland Village parking lot where he placed 2 dozen jumbo sized burlapped herters into my truck bed. Wanted them out of his way and wouldn't take a dime for them. We hunted and fished and had some great times. His wit always had the entire place laughing. One of my favorite pranks, "the doctor" and I met him at Walker"s Drive In one night for dinner with our wives. He had the waitress serve a basket of burnt toast corners per an inside joke from a recent hunting trip and he rode it with sharp spurs! Had everyone in the restaurant and table in tears laughing. He was a State grad, never met a stranger. We'd fallen out of touch, which seems too often the case, but the world suddenly feels a lot emptier. Godspeed Bankermane!

The family would like to thank all of you for the thoughts and memories of Chan that you have shared on this post we printed a copy for Leslie and Chans mom. It will mean alot to them in the future when they can look back and see how much Chans friendship meant to the men he enjoyed the outdoors with. Thanks again
