I've got a 2007 JD 757 60"(with 25 HP Kawasaki) that is great. I did have to replace the clutch ($400) and the battery last year, but no other problems. I change the filters every year.

So let me recap this conversation. From what I can tell, I definately need to have a welded deck and the concensous is that Kawasaki engines are
the preferred engine over the others and for replacement parts (ie blades, filters, belts, etc) are pretty much the same across the board cost wise?

Also sounds like I can't go wrong with Exmark or JD if I decide to go with either.

Next question is weedeater. Man I am so sick of going through cheap booty weedeaters I can't stand it. Last one I bought was
a ryobi from Home depot the kind that has all the saw attachment and stuff. That thing hasn't run right since I got it and
I still can't get it right. Taken it to shop more times than I've used it. What is a good weedeater that I can count on to crank
and run every time I pick it up to use it?

I have a KM 130 Stihl. It was very expensive but I bought it for a Purpose. It will turn a Pole saw like you have never seen before. My only complaint is it is heavy. Cranks every time even in the spring. I got a Buddy that loves the redMax weedeaters. His is not as strong as mine but it is twice as light.

You have to buy the tools for the Purpose. Are you wanting just a trimmer? Pole Saw, Blower attatchment? If so you have to buy a Kombi (Or whatever terminology everyone else uses). My suggestion to you is this...If your buying just a trimmer...find the lightest one you can find. After weedeating my 12 acres and cleaning up around the 300 acre field with mine...My back hurts like all get out...

Stihl weedeater, final answer. FS 85 is probably all u need around the house, $350

FS85 is now the FS90R..... 319.95. We sell more of those than anything else, next would be the FS55R @ 219.95. Stihl is the only way to go, Service, Service, Service !

I laid my FS85 to rest about a month ago. Dang fine weedeater. My carb was shot, mechanic said they are about $100 IF you could find one.

I have a 25 HP Kawasaki also in my JD 757. Stihl striaght shaft weedeater is the only way to go.

A buddy of mine has an exmark for sale. kawasaki engine, I think 60" cut, 1500 hours. PM if anyone is interested.

Exmark and JD 757 are good mowers, as are Scag and Ferris. I went with a Gravely - got a 52" welded deck, kawasaki engine, and heavy duty 3100 hydro units for under $5k. It's a beast and seems to be built like a tank. Designed for easy access to everything, I like the engineering on it. It's my first summer so time will tell, but it looks and feels like quality. Comes with 2 year warranty also, and the local dealer has been around forever.

I like the price on the Gravely for sure and it looks good enough and I've heard good things about them, my only problem with it is the closest place that
deals in them is an hour drive away from me. So if I need parts I'm out of luck VS if I went with the JD or Exmark I'd be able to pick up parts for them
just about anywhere. That's what I'm really looking for. Now if they move a Gravely dealer to Oxford or Batesville, then I'd sure look into getting one. Thanks for all the help. I've got decisions to make on it now. I was going to wait till next season to get one, but may break down and get one this year.

if you can wait until after "lawn season" (aug, sept), you can catch them on sale and usually get a pretty good discount on same or previous year models...gotta make room for the new spring models.
