Watch out for snakes
My 6 year old was bit three times yesterday while in her kennel. Came home to find her limping with a swollen leg. The copperheadedrattlemoccasin was a mean one, got her in the hock, toe, and hip

They are bad around here. Already 2 kids in this and the next county bit. I've been told but dont know for sure, a bit of lime around the outside of the kennel helps repel them. I got the pelleted kind, has anyone else used it for that?

The old country recipe was to use sulfur to repel snakes. Supposedly the sulfur burns their belly and they won't cross it. I think you can buy bag sulfur at the co-op

I would encourage the snake vaccine. Primarily introduced as immune system booster to build antibodies against rattlesnake venom but has been shown to prevent serious illness and swelling against common venomous snakes in the south ie copperhead and water moccasin. Better than no immunity at all imo. My pup just got the first shot and goes back for booster in a week.
Re: Watch out for snakes
Dogs were barking in the kennel (Saturday) so I went to investigate. Opened the door with a sack of dog food in my hand. As soon as I opened the door to the kennel run there he was....mad, coiled and rattling. I dropped the sack between my bare leg and him and kept walking. Went to the truck and got the best snake/ whatever pistol ever made (a .410 Taurus) while the dogs kept him at bay. Took his head off. Why he didn't get me I haven't a clue...bet he's wishing he had. And no, Wingman, I didn't get any cool closeup pics or offer to herd him off into the bushes:)....just ain't no Crocodile Hunter in me.
You are a real man if that rattling at your feet doesn't get to you.

Wilm88,
both of my dogs have the vaccine. Part of the skin/soft tissues around her hock sloughed, but all has healed minus a scar or two but otherwise she is ok
