Re: Favorite Beer
Sorry, for the late reply. The MellowMushroom was in Auburn.
That Tire Bite ale is good stuff! I need to get some more of it soon.
I am on a Magic Hat kick right now. The #9 is a real good beer.

yep, yep...good beer! had (quite) a few #9's last weekend at carmine's while waiting on a spot at the bar for dinner. i've had a couple of different magic hat sampler 12pks, and the #9 and Blind Faith IPA were my favorites.Hole Hunter wrote:The #9 is a real good beer.

Re: Favorite Beer
Dammit man, That Left Hand Sawtooth Ale is hands down my favorite beer. The only place I have ever found it is at Vulcan Beverage in Bham.
I need some of that soon!

Re: Favorite Beer
Tried "Dig", the new spring seasonal from New Belgium. I liked it, kind of fruity, similar to last year's Somersault. Picked up a 6 pack on a sunny afternoon and they didn't last long.

I got that Sawtooth back in October in Illinois.
Re: Favorite Beer
hey southdeltan,
where, in rolling fork, do you find tha yazoo hop project? i've been thinking about it for a while, but just haven't made the effort to head southwest from isola the times (few) times i've been back...never have been motivated enough to add another hour+ to my drive back to the east side of the state.

Re: Favorite Beer
I can't get Hop Project in Rolling Fork. I buy that in Vicksburg. The Kroger there always has the Hop Project on the shelf past the coolers for $5.99. That blows me away, they put the other Yazoo beer in the cooler and sell it for $7 or so. I picked up a Six Pack of HP 64 last night. I haven't opened it. 63 was awesome. I've heard they're already bottling 65. They change the recipe every batch.
The store I buy Yazoo and Lazy Mag from in RF is an Indian store called P&A Food Mart (Used to be Dot's Stop N Shop when I was a kid, then Mickey's, then John's) sort of across from the Fred's (between P&P Tire and the Mini-Storage). I don't think he even has gas anymore, but he has a decent selection of beer (by far the best in Sharkey County: Lazy Mag, Abita, Yazoo, Guinness, maybe some Sam Adams, several Mexican beers besides Corona, and your typical imports like Heiniken). They usually just have the Yazoo Pale Ale and Dos Perros. I've seen the Hefweizen in there but I imagine that didn't sell worth a crap in RF.
I'd say from Isola the closest place that has Hop Project would be the McDades in Yazoo City. It's in the shopping center with the new McDonald's (across the street from the old McDonald's). I think it used to be a Sunflower. The last time I was there they had all 4 styles of Yazoo that are sold in the State. I'd call and ask them if they have it (tell them to look for a green label with a red top).

Re: Favorite Beer
Their brewery rep said it should be available up in NE MS sometime this year. I can't recall the approximate month he said (he didn't give a set date, too many variables). But it's in the works and should happen soon.donia wrote:gotcha, thanks for the info...i'll keep mcdade's in mind then next time through yazoo.

A lot of people up in that corner of the state have complained because they thought Yazoo was skipping them and going to Jackson. I've seen people say "why won't their trucks stop here on the way to Jackson". Well, there's a good reason - there isn't a direct route from Nashville to Jackson that goes through that part of the state. They take I65 down to Birmingham then I20 over to Jxn.
I'm looking forward to trying their Sly Rye Porter. It's already legal in MS, but they just started bottling it. Their Sue isn't legal in MS but it will be after July 1st I think. While I prefer IPAs, their Pale Ale is my favorite in that class. I'll take it over Sierra Nevada any day. Even the average batches of Hop Project are top shelf.

Cal,
We are currently not distributed in North MS at this time. However we are meeting with distributors now and plan on rolling out in Starkville around the first week of August. Thanks again for the support.

i'm hoping for a boom in new breweries to be kicking off at my local distributorships around that time, as well!!

Re: Favorite Beer
I've met Neil, he's a really good guy.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on new breweries. You should expect new beers from breweries that already distribute in the state. New breweries will come later, based on what happened in Alabama. Many craft breweries are focusing more on their local area, the demand is so high they can barely keep up with their current markets. New breweries in the state could be a while (I know of 2 in the process of starting up) because it's a minimum $250 K to buy a small brewhaus.i'm hoping for a boom in new breweries to be kicking off at my local distributorships around that time, as well!!

Cal - lemme know if you need me to pick you up some Hop Project around the corner. It's "ok", but I actually like their pale ale better.donia wrote:hey southdeltan,
