ASK DS Mosquito Magnet

Postby lipsplitter39654 » Wed Mar 21, 2012 9:14 am

Been looking at the mosquito magnet to put in my yard. i am considering the one acre model. Was wondering if they are worth the money. the online reviews look great but was wondering if anyone on here has any experience using them. the mosquitos are horrible at my house as we live on pearl river. we have a handheld fogger but it only works for a short time. thanks

I've got the Mosquito Magnet Executive model. Man that thing is a life saver!!! It flat out makes a difference! Depending of what kind of mosquitos you predominately have, there are different kinds of lures for the machine... Those little black bastiges (asian tiger mosquito) will not be effectively trapped with the standard lure (octenol) they provide with the machine. I use (lurex3) for catching those little shiats... Also, when setting up the machine; always set it upwind from the area you will be using outdoors. That way it will draw them away from your "cone of activity". They'll smell the lure and follow it to the trap.

Can you leave them out in the open or do they need to be somewhat sheltered?

You can leave it out in the open if you wish... They sell a cover for it if you want to leave it in place year round. I don't run mine once it starts to cool off. I just turn everything off and give it a good charge and slide the cover on... Done deal until next skeeter season!

We got serious skeeters in my hood. My grandfather had a mosquito magnet and said it made them worse. I would check out a mosquito spray system mounted to your house. They work well. Hines outlaw in Cleveland sells them I think it's outlaw mosquitos

I live in Washington Co. we got one and it did not help at all. I just burned a lot of propane. The mosquito spray systems you put around the house seem to do better in my area, but still don't get all of them.

About how much do the home misting systems run? Can they be set up to spray the yard too or just around the house? How much do the refills or chemicals run for them? We have a camp on the Leaf river and I would love something for there.
