Anyone on here work for the U.S Postal service?? I need info

I have an interview scheduled with the Postal Service for a "city carrier transitional employee"....What does the "transitional employee" title mean? The job posting said the job came with no benefits also. I thought the Postal service employees had benefits. I am retired military so insurance is not an issue, but having a pension or some retirement system is. I would appreciate if anyone could help me out!

Starting Wages: Wages vary by location. The average in 2009 was $20.00 per hour.

This is a long-term temporary job. Transitional City Carriers are hired for a 360 day term, and can be reappointed for additional 360 day terms.

A Transitional City Carrier performs the same functions and must meet the same requirements as a City Carrier, but it is not necessary to take an exam to get a Transitional City Carrier job.
