Is it time for Stansbury to go?
I've never been one to be quick to jump on the fire the coach bandwagon but I'm not sure Rick is the coach that can take MSU to the next level. Historically his teams have under achieved. He is a good recruiter but just can't seem to get his teams to play to their potential. I'm thinking if this team doesn't make the NCAA tourney or is one and done in the NCAA tourney, yes MSU needs to be in the market for a new coach. What are your thoughts about it?

Such a fine line here. Since he has taken over only two schools have more wins then State, KY and FL. Pretty good programs to have your name compared to. But then again loosing to Ga at home and blowing a 17 point lead to LSU sure does not help his case(nor do the other multiple bad losses). I am not sure where I stand on this yet but the slope is getting slippery for him no doubt.

Re: Is it time for Stansbury to go?
Who knows... I think that for some reason he has been able to get descent talent to Starkville, but he just has not done much with it over the years. My biggest issue was the discipline problems he had last year... after some of the things that took place I'm not sure why he made it through all of last year, but that seems to be better this year.
The players are worn out this year because even though he has recruited pretty well for the starting five, he doesn't really have much backup for them, which is pretty apparent when we blow leads late in the game. Hood and Steele both play pretty good though.
Next year will quite possibly be a disaster. Bost will be gone and if I were Moultrie I would leave while I could. The black plague is a better disease than Sidney to a team. His lack of effort and conditioning is sickening to watch... who cares if the big guy hits one three a game.
The magic question is who do you get to do better? Who can bring kids to Starkville and win more games than what we have? Not sure that guy is out there right now.

Re: Is it time for Stansbury to go?
We will back into the tournament as a 10 to 12 seed and get bounced the first round. Fully expect Moultrie to go pro, Sydney too. Without Moultrie, Sydney and Bost this team will be lucky to win 12 games next year. We will only have 1 or 2 SEC caliber players on the roster next year. We will have zero inside presence. No go to scorers. If Stricklin does not pull the trigger this year he will have no choice next year.

Bottom line: He runs a loose ship, always has.
I graduated MSU in 2006 and had a couple of good friends on the team. Knew several starters by name, but didn't hang out much except when I was with my friends. I know that none of them had much respect for the coach. IMO which is based on what I saw with my own eyes and what I heard from several guys on the team, there are two main reasons he didn't command respect from his players:
1) His basic knowledge of the offensive game was lacking. Several guys have probably had more knowledgeable high school coaches and know right off that he's just not very good at offensive coaching.
2) Discipline is administered based on ability/scholarship/talent and not applied equally to the team. There is no excuse for being out of shape at this level. Sydney is a great example, sure, but there have been plenty of players in the past who were headline names and were allowed to drag during practice.
Personally, I'd love to see a "Croom" come in and at least straighten out the team. Hopefully he'll be a guy who can have success in wins, but at the very least we need discipline to get back on track.

I have been very outspoken on this subject.
Re: Is it time for Stansbury to go?
Some names to consider..
Kenny payne.. Played at Louisville. He's an asst coach for John calapari. And he's a miss native from the laurel area..
Sean woods. Head coach at miss valley state. He's doing a helluva a job there this year. If you can win in itta bena u can win anywhere.. Woods played pt guard at kentucky..
Larry eustacey head coach s miss.. At one time Larry was in line for the state job. Back when it went to Richard Williams. Not sure what he makes at usm but i'd bet stans makes significantly more.
And lastly. A reach I'm sure but what the hell.. Steve wohenkoski. Asst coach at duke under coach k. Why not. Maybe he thinks the duke job will be his one day. But in the mean time he could lead his on program

Maybe he needs to lay down the hammer. Suspend some kids. We have no problem doing it over here.

That wouldn't work because he still wouldn't know anything about basketball.webbmaster wrote:Maybe he needs to lay down the hammer. Suspend some kids. We have no problem doing it over here.

maybe so
First, in the movie "Goodfellas", we were introduced to Jimmy "Two Times" :
"That's life on the road"..."You're not going to be able to hold that lead. People are going to make a run at you. LSU is good. Nobody has beaten them here but Kentucky. You're not going to hold a 17-point lead. People are going to make a run at you."
"That's life on the road. It's not easy on the road. That's why you have to close them out when you have those opportunities. You have to close them out."

And now, starring in today's Clarion Ledger, we have MSU's Ricky "Two Times":Henry Hill: [narrating] And then there was Jimmy Two Times, who got that nickname because he said everything twice, like:
Jimmy Two Times: I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers.
