I guess by this standard one could go duck or goose hunting and shoot a hawk, eagle, turkey, or heron ..cause it's just a bigger bird. And then seek out the news media to have your photo taken. If you don't know what it is, don't shoot it.

You let one of them prize elk in Morton come to my place and watch how fast I shoot it.

And the Hawk, eagle etc etc thing is about them dumbest thing I have ever read..........now everyone on here is dumber than before from just haveing to read that..........

Bingo...It's an exotic, invasive species once it is outside of that fence as far as i'm concerned!

SWomack, your argument absolutely fails to hold water due to the fact that the mourning dove is legal to shoot in MS, but the ring neck dove is considered an invasive species (outside of an enclosure and not native) and doesn't fall into the same bag limit. I would submit that as a comparison here to attempt to persuade you. Now, these guys did luck out... they shot an animal without having a CLUE as to what it was, but they did remark they believed it to be a (whitetail) deer. Not all hunters in MS are amateur biologists and we should be careful in giving people such a hard time- remember that the number of hunters is decreasing across the country and we should look to educate people rather than persecute them. This also goes for all those on here that jump at any little thing someone does (i.e. face paint, dogs, mojos, etc...) to make fun of them just because they don't do it the same as them.

So if a hunter decides to shoot a wild hog in the fading light and shoots a black bear by mistake, by your logic it would be ok? I believed it was a hog, I know I shot it, but it really isn't my responsibilty to identify what I am shooting, duh... That is how hunting accidents happen. What if it had been a 500 pound brown calf? All I am saying is they shot a Red Deer, which is livestock not wildlife that is not a game animal in season. I doubt criminal charges will be brought against anyone in this case but some food for thought for those who just think they can start blasting away at 500 pound animals of unknown species....it could be construed as a felony.

A bear is an indigenous protected species in Mississippi. Killing one in Mississippi is illegal. They are native to Mississippi. Red Deer is for one thing, not live stock, it is catagorized as an exotic, and is not subject to seasons or limits. I don't know what the laws are regarding killing someones cow that is on your property, but cows aren't exotic species, they are livestock, and significantly different, and therefore much more difficult to mistake for a deer. After all, a Red Deer is in fact, a deer. To someone who has never seen a Red Deer, or in their case, probably any type of deer other than a white-tail. Why would they think anything different when the only deer that are supposed to be in Mississippi are Whitetails.

You're logic makes no sense.

Exactly. Last time I checked, a Red deer is not a "horse, cattle, swine, sheep and other domestic animals produced for profit." I don't think a Red deer falls under the category of a domestic animal hahaha. I don't think I want a red deer living in my house.
