I don't know what it is but I can say it ain't no whitetail. Somebody is missing a pet.

What's funny is even though it's a red deer, it's not like these guys knew that. They thought it was a white-tail. In Mississippi it's illegal to kill spikes.
Re: 500 lb deer killed in Simpson County
I don't believe so. This deer looks like it would meet the minimum beam length requirements (if they did think it was a white-tail):duramax wrote: In Mississippi it's illegal to kill spikes.
Deer Management Zone 1:
Private and open public lands east of I-55 and north of I-20 plus areas south of I-20 and east of U.S. Highway 61, excluding areas south of U.S. Highway 84 and east of MS Highway 35.
A legal buck is defined as having EITHER a minimum inside spread of 10 inches OR a minimum main beam length of 13 inches.
Deer Management Zone 2:
Private and open public lands south of U.S. Hwy 84 and east of MS Hwy 35.
A legal buck is defined as having EITHER a minimum inside spread of 10 inches OR a minimum main beam length of 13 inches.
Deer Management Zone 3:
Private and open public lands west of I-55 and north of I-20 plus areas south of I-20 and west of U.S. Highway 61.
A legal buck is defined as having EITHER a minimum inside spread of 12 inches OR a minimum main beam length of 15 inches.
In all zones: For youth fifteen (15) years of age and younger hunting on private lands and authorized state and federal lands, all three (3) of their three (3) buck bag limit may be any antlered deer regardless of number of points, inside spread, or beam length.

Doesn't it meet minimum spread and main beam length requirements?

My mistake. I guess I hadn't looked at the regs in a while when it used to be 4 points or greater.

A Red deer is livestock, not wildlife. When did it become LEGAL to shoot livestock? I guess by this standard one could go duck or goose hunting and shoot a hawk, eagle, turkey, or heron ..cause it's just a bigger bird. And then seek out the news media to have your photo taken. If you don't know what it is, don't shoot it.
