Best brush gun

Postby Buckwabit » Wed Dec 28, 2011 6:25 pm

I want to know what is your go to brush gun! I'm looking for less than 100 yard shot with the following points

1. Knock down power
2. Maneuverability in tight quarters
3. Accuracy
4. Rifle, shotgun, pistol

I'm leaning toward a 44 mag pistol or lever action 44 mag rifle

X2 on the 35. I personally shoot a Remington model7600 .270 pump. I love it and its a great all around gun. BUT I would honestly say that is perfect slug gun territory and they have the most knock down power of any.

Slug would be great but I would have to make sure I got the short barrels so it would be mobile. Buckshot is out. Thickets on both side and no blood trail if I didn't kill him on the spot. I would have to pass on that!

I have what you need, but you cant have it. You will have to go get your own. This is my crown jewel and it is accurate and deadly. 870 express with 21" fully rifled barrel with a canteliver scope mount. Mine is topped off with a 3x9x40 Monarch. I hunt loc-ons and a climber a lot looking into thickets with 100-130 yard max visibility. When put in that situation it is my go to gun. Besides my encore muzzleloader it is my favorite gun to hunt with. I have killed both bucks that I have mounted with it. I patterned a bunch of different shells before I settled in on 2.75" Hornaday SST's. I think 300 grain. It took two weekends of pattern the gun before I fiqured out which slug it liked, and it likes it. It will group within 2" at 100. Sometimes both shot holes are touching. I only make sure it is sighted in and hunt with it. No play shooting, the shells got are pricey. I found this one several years ago in the classifiedss and I think I gave $200 for it. I already had the scope and I added a limbsaver recoil pad.

In all seriousness a Mosin, SKS, or AK would be a great brush gun. just make sure you have the mag plugged.

My uncle has killed some of the biggest deer in three counties with his Ruger 10/44. He will not sell it to save his life.
