Well I had my first experience of swimming in the river during hunting season Friday. We took off work Friday at noon and headed to the river to do a little public land deer hunting. Found me a tree and started climbing and get half way up a see a buck looking right me. After a few minutes of trying to figure out how to get my big booty turned around, gun up to me and get it loaded all without being seen I finally do and drop the buck dead in his tracks, its now 130 and I have been in the tree for 5 minutes and have a deer down. So I decided to take a nap after all that work
. Well after a couple naps its aout 400 and I have a Buck chasing some does and another out of site gunting his butt off, when all of a sudden my phone goes off and its one of my friends that I am hunting with and he said the boat is gone, he said he was sitting in his stand watching the river rise and got to thinking he didn't tie the boat up he just pulled it up on the sand bar, well the boat was gone. He finally spooted it about 400 yards down river on my side on the bank(according to him), so after about 45 minutes of climbing up and over stuff, I get to where the boat is suppose to be and it is about a 45 foot drop to the river and the boat is about 10 yards off the bank stuck on an old tree. Well since that was not going to works I had to go back up the river about 100 yards to a spot the beavers where using and slid down the bank to a flat spot and then had to undress and slid down to the edge of the water. The water started off about a foot deep and the dropped to lord knows what( I never touched the bottom) the current shot me down about 15 yards to a dead tree where I climb up on to take a break(catch my breath) and turn my flashlight on and sat there asking myself what the heck I was doing before jumping back in and riding the current to the boat, well i finally got myself in the boat and pull the boat to start it and for once in its life it started on the first pull, which I am very thankful for because I also pulled the rope out. I pull over to the other side of the river to get my friend, by know it is going on 630pm. I get him and we then have to go back up river to get my stuff and go back fuerther up river to get my deer and climber. So now its about 730 and we start the ride back to get my friend who is about a mile down river. When we pull up all he could do was fuss about why we left him in the woods for so long, seeing that he is afraid of the dark at the age of 37 and wanted to know what we where doing and why I wouldn't answer the phone(which battery was dead). We did all make it home after all was said and done. My wife said she didn't want me to go deer hunting on the river anymore, so I said ok for now I would just duck hunt(which all I hunt is the river) and she was ok with that, yes she is blonde, she said she just didn't want me deer hunting on the river. Sorry for the long read and speeling errors, just thought I would share.

yea I could see that. I really thought you were talking about the MS when you were talking about the current, was thinkin you had bigger balls than anyone I ever met to do that. Not that the tombigbee isn't cold, just doesn't have the undertow like the MS.

Glad yall made it out ok. I hunt on the river and have done crazy stuff to hunt. I have often told a friend if my wife knew what all went on to get to some of our hunting spots I wouldn't be hunting anymore.
