Most accurate extended forecast?

Postby UGAReb » Sun Dec 11, 2011 6:37 pm

Which weather service do you find to be most accurate? I check weather.com, wunderground.com, and accuweather.com.

None of them are anywhere accurate long range. The guy that owns weather.com told my dad to never trust anything past 3 days...

That's the sense I get from it, too.

Have a few old friends coming into town for a hunt next weekend--just hoping the weather and birds will cooperate.

I know all the extended forcasts currently suck. Need a clipper with some bad weather to cover IL and MO

FedEx in Memphis tn has the most accurate forecast compared to all the weather channels. I look at there's more than any other.

That's my experience. About half the time you can get a general idea of what is down the pipe, but the dates will be off or it won't happen at all. So in other words, see above.

500MB chart off of NOAA site. It is weather that is now happening at the upper levels(500 MB pressure) or about jet stream height. It will foretell weather out a couple of days once you learn how to decipher it. Deep sea navigators swear by this!

Listened to a presentation by a meteorologist in college. He said that the weather can be accurately predicted for only about 6 hours into the future. Beyond that is just an educated guess based on history and results from mathematical models, and these models are flawed in that they work like the chaos theory or the butterfly effect. The introduction of the most minuscule variable can cause exponentially compounded changes in the results.

All I know its that I hope that is the case with the Extended forecast for the next 7-10 days. Looking pretty bleek as far as cold temps go. I know it's early-mid Dec. but I wouldn't mind some record lows right about... now

Right there with you...but I don't guess it really matters. It's not like any of us can control it!

I saw a big ring around the moon last night. Rain in 48-72 hours.

Do you think you could ask you dad to get that guy to tell the folks at the weather channel to go back to just providing local and regional weather information?

I mean come on, if I really wanted to read what the same five people on tweeter have to say about their day multiple times every day, I would just go open my own facebook page and look there. I'm sure they are the same five people who always show up on my page with nothing relevant to say. The same crapola.

The weather channel should at least change its name to something that more accurately describes what they do.

I know I would appreciate some help with this, I'm sure others would too?
