Re: Banded Ducks
One of our camp members killed a banded speck the 1st Sunday of the season. That's it for us so far.
Re: Banded Ducks
Actually this is kind of crazy but up until this year I had only killed on banded female woodie. opening morning i killed a banded female GW that was banded in Saskachewan this past august. bird was young. Then four days later i killed a banded male GW that was banded in the Northern territories in '08. That bird had made the trip a few times. Anyway all i can say is I'm lucky, but not usually.

Killed this guy first Sunday of the season:

Was banded in Minnesota Sept 5 this year. Band looked brand new since it only hadn't been on it for 3 months.

Seems like every one that I've see was banded in Laurel, Maryland.....must be some kind of big banding facility

It's like a weigh station you see on the side of the highway for freight trucks. In this case, all migrating ducks are required to stop by and be banded.

Re: Banded Ducks
Actually one of the bands I shot didn't have laurel on it. I thought they all had that city printed on them.deltadukman wrote:Seems like every one that I've see was banded in Laurel, Maryland.....must be some kind of big banding facility

Seriously? Im guessing its sarcasm I hope. That's one of a few companies that make bands. You can band a bird in saskatoon and it be laurel Md. Ive got a band that an individual had made. His addy close to Dauphin lake in Canada. You can personalized bands and raise flight mallards and release if you want. Its kinda cool to do that. I released around a dozen a few years back. Have not heard anything back though.

Re: Banded Ducks
He's joking speck. He's refering to a post somebody made awhile back that the duck they shot was from laurel. But I thought all of WLF bands had laurel Maryland on them but obviously not cause both birds I shot were banded by WLF yet one of the bands doesn't have any city name on it, just numbers.speckulator wrote:Seriously?
