Blindside shells
Anybody tried the new blindside shells, if so how do you like'em?
Re: Blindside shells
Buddy of mine gave them a try. Anything within 30 yd them things are havoc on ducks. Not sure they worth the price bc he no longer shoots them
But he did like them

So far, I like them...with that said, you can never judge a new product too early. It needs to prove itself the whole season. So far, it has knocked down every duck but one...and that was just the shooters fault.
. With any shell, you still have to hit them.

Re: Blindside shells
Some guys patterned some at Willow Break last weekend. At 30-40 yards, huge gaps in the pattern. There was another thread at duckhunternet, guy says his pellet count bs versus whatever were practically equal. Day in, day out, give me 1.25 ounce steel 2s or 3s through a LM choke.

+1 Saw this article on Wakeman's site:Double R 2 wrote:Some guys patterned some at Willow Break last weekend. At 30-40 yards, huge gaps in the pattern. Another interesting observation is that Winchester is claiming in their new "Blind Side" steel is hexagonal in shape because:
"Stacked pellets in the same space means 15% more pellets". I was skeptical, so I weighed the 169 pellets in the 1 3/8 oz load-- 39.08 grams. Same pellet count and weight as standard, spherical steel. What the ****-- all this marketing crap insults my intelligence and makes me want to get into reloading....
Here are a couple of direct quotes: "Stacked. Our engineers call it ‘packing density'. Tightly packed and stacked Hex™ Shot gives you 15% more shot pellets per shell, increasing your kill zone by 25%. And it’s 100% Hex Shot." Winchester goes on to say that #2 Hex Shot weighs the same as #2 spherical steel. A clever third grader would understand that 1-3/8 oz. of #2 Hex Shot and #2 steel have the same number of pellets. Problem is, those clever third graders are never around when you really need them.

Pure marketing BS.

Re: Blindside shells
The wording is kinda misleading, it says up to 15% more shot in some loads. Well the 3.5" load is 1 5/8 oz instead of 1 9/16 for the dryloc. There is your difference. 13/8 is 13/8. maybe a pellet or two maybe even 3 or 4 but no not the 15%. Like you said anyone doing math could figure that out. But that load traveling at that velocity it is one of the if not the hardest hitting load on the market today! The technology of the wad stopping under it's on power instead of using some type of wad stopper also is very instrumental in increasing the energy applied downrange. Most wad stoppers usually slow the whole charge down, increase pressure on the gun, and make far more noticeable recoil. Blindside is also designed to shoot in most any choke, unlike the blackcloud! IMO it's one of the best things to hit the market in the steel shot industry. My only gripe is the cost of all of it!Jimbob wrote:+1 Saw this article on Wakeman's site:Double R 2 wrote:Some guys patterned some at Willow Break last weekend. Re: Blindside shells
Saw a blind side wad lodge in an 870 barrel about 4-5" from the receiver yesterday. Could've been really bad if the guy had tried to shoot again.
Re: Blindside shells
If the wad lodged 5" from the receiver it would have blown bbl and receiver if full powder charge ignited Make it a little more 'beieveanle by saying it left the barrel, orbited the Moon twice and fell back to Earth and fell back into his barrel the next day while propped-up against the 4-wheeler......and lodged 5" from the receiver.

For Real! Musta been some of those el cheapo ammos from the sales at Rodgers or Able ammo he's always advertising!Anatidae wrote:If the wad lodged 5" from the receiver it would have blown bbl and receiver if full powder charge ignited Make it a little more 'beieveanle by saying it left the barrel, orbited the Moon twice and fell back to Earth and fell back into his barrel the next day while propped-up against the 4-wheeler......and lodged 5" from the receiver.

Re: Blindside shells
He saw fire shoot out the side of the breech when he shot.
Re: Blindside shells
Can't say it wasn't a bad shell for that's what it looks like. You can get a bad one in anything! Especially in the cheaper ammo! But he didn't have a full load go off and stick in the chamber like that. If so it would have blown that gun to pieces and most likely injured him and you or anyone else standing next to him. It made a noticeable sound difference Im sure!
