Ask DS: Iphone water damage

Postby Duckimpeller » Mon Dec 05, 2011 12:28 pm

Any one know any tricks on fixing a Iphone that has been dropped in water. I know the put it in rice trick but it takes days and don't always work. If anyone knows a quicker way to get all the moisture out I would love to know so I don't have to go buy 1 out right.

Some things not to do is use a hair dryer or cut it one for a few days. The hair dryer forces moisture deeper into the circuits and cutting it on to early will run the risk of a short circuit.

had a buddy drop in while duck hunting and it sat under for atleast 5 min. he went back to the house and took it completely apart and soaked it in alcohol. had to be 90% isopropy or whatever its called. it worked for him. as long as you haven't tried to turn it on and try this, it may work. he hasn't had a problem out of it since it happened 2 weeks ago

Sounds like I may be screwed then, cause I couldn't turn it off. The screen wouldn't work but it still would make noise and someone called it and I answered it just by touching the blank screen. It shut off in the middle of talking on it.

I can't help you with the water damage, but for future reference check out the life proof cases. I purchased one a few months ago. These are completely waterproof and can video 6 feet under water! Google life proof case for iPhone and see for yourself. $69.99

Guess I need to check that case out, even though this is the first time I've ever dropped a phone in water. Guess my luck is changing for the worse. Ain't had the phone but 3 weeks.

Go to the store and buy you a bag of rice and put the phone in it.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

How is the sound on the speaker with that case? I've heard that it was muffled sounding to the person that you are talking to on the phone. I was wanting one, but haven't read very many good reviews.

This case does have pros and cons. I like the fact that it's fully waterproof and protective. I have had a couple complaints of sounding muffled so I just speak louder. I would rather have a waterproof case than replace my phone. I would recommend the case to people who spend time on the water or outdoors

We did this with a buddy's phone...but we were also able to take it apart to dry.

Getting a new phone overnighted from Apple. I called and bought the Applecare+ plan last night for $100 that offers up to 2 replacements over 2 years for $50. Asked the guy when the affective date of the plan is and he said it starts from the day you bought your phone. So I called this morning and told them I droped it in water and need a new 1. After bout 30min. on the phone due to their computers having a problem processing the claim, I was told the $50 is waived cause it was taking so long and that it would be overnighted to me. Beats the heck out of spending $650 for a new 1. Not like they aint already got plenty of my money since I've bought 2 Iphones and a Ipad 2 3G within the last month.
