Benelli Diagnosis

Ok so here is the problem. When I my SBE (the original) the gun cycles but will not throw the hull out completely. I put a surecycle in tonight because last year when it got really cold it would not cycle completely, but this did not solve the problem completely. Still I put some light loads in it and shot. The hull comes halfway out and gets lodged in the action. Tried three inch steel, but had the same response. The only load that cycles completely is a 3.5 inch turkey load which cycled just fine. Everything else seems to be working smoothly. The spring on the ejector claw seems to still be in good shape and the bolt seems to function like it always has. This gun was bought in 1994 I think and has been shot a ton. The serial number is just over 50000. I'm usually pretty good at figuring these things out for myself, but am getting stumped on this one.

Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks guys....

The ejector for the SBE is a small spring on the inside wall of the barrel. If you pull the barrel off then you can see it opposite of the ejection port. This spring gets weak over time/shooting and needs to be replaced. Your problem sounds just like the ejector spring is just worn out. I'm not sure who your closest Benelli dealer is but I know Garys Gun in West Point is a big dealer. They should carry a small supply of these small parts, but if not give The Sportsman here in Greenville a call. I'm sure they will have one.

Just re-read your post- just to clarify the "claw" that is on your bolt is actually the extractor and not the ejector, but that's good that the spring still appears to have the proper tension.

Same thing happened with mine recently. My wifes boss works on guns on the side and he found that my roll pin that holds the ejector spring in place had worn so much that the spring would not function correctly. The pin cost around $6 and it fixed mine.
