Getting rid of Cototes and Bobcats

Postby bustercat64 » Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:24 am

I have noticed over the last several years a growing number of coyotes and bobcats on our hunting club outside of Louisville. What would the best legal way of getting rid of predators be? Our club has decided to try to do something at the end of this deer season any suggestions will be helpful.

A coyote call and a 22-250 or 243 in the late afternoon. The other day I had a lone coyote call three right up to me at about 4:45 in the evening. I guess they were trying to pack up for the night and he was in the woods behind me. He made a few lone howls and the others started cutting up and wound up coming almost straight to me in an open CRP field. Less coyotes to worry about now. I will ruin a deer hunt any day to kill some coyotes. Funny thing is about 5 min after I shot, had 2 bucks come out on me. I'm not sure that the gunshots bother the deer as much as folks think.

get you an electronic call and start working on them. It's fun as hell too. You gotta be quick though

It IS the "go to, dont know what youre talking about but want to sound like you do,sounds cool, never actually seen the product, standard answer" for this question.

We dump guts about 400 yds from the corner of one stand. Always catch some yotes going to or coming from. gives you something else to look for while your hunting.

Our woods are so thick, just how close can we get them to work with a call. As far as Temic I already know what the stuff is and how it works and we dont need to go there. Two weekends ago we where walking through a greenfield and all you could smell was $hit. Can you hunt them at night?

a bunch of snare traps work good and if the yotes and cats are as thick as you think, then they will definitely put a dent in the population.

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
and THAT is a duck hunt.

Can someone comment on trapping coyotes when deer dogs are present in the area? Is there a technique to keep them out?

there is no "legal" way to knock out the population "fast" that i know of. set traps and pray for distemper?

Was at a camp one time that was ate up with them...they had a guy come in and plant 10-12 in pvc in the ground at an angle just high enuff for a yote to raise up and get in ...put meat down in it and they would find it and slide in but could not get a grip to back out...said they make catch some dogs in the process but they got a handle on them yotes with out poison.....

i made the mistake of recommending it once on a forum and the police came out in everyone !!! i never knew a coyote was such a protected species. i later decided to go back and withdraw my statement from the fear of investigations from the EPA and DEQ  . so with that said i do NOT recommend the use of temic..

but i have heard if you soak styrofoam package peanuts in used cooking oil it will kill'em.. don't know if that legal or not so check before you take my word or don't tell nobody!!

Temik ain't a laughing matter. It is a snowball you can't stop once you start it.

Have a friend that works for the dept of ag and regulates pesticides and herbicides. He said you'd rather get caught shooting your neighbor than putting Temic out for animals. Bad, bad stuff
