On ESPN Baton Rouge yesterday afternoon, Matt Mascona was interviewing Neal McCready with RebelGrove.com and the names McCready mentioned were Fedora and Kirby Smart as main targets. Says there may be some discussions with Rich Rodriguez, Leach and Kevin Sumlin of Houston, but these are not the main viable candidates.

That would be a kick in the nuts for USM fans, but a good move. He is a good coach, already knows the state, high school coaches and top recruits. He is an offense guy that promotes strong defense. It would be a solid hire in my opinion. It would be the ultimate slap in the face to USM though.

So the search committe has been in place for less than a week and they have already decided on Fedora? Not buying it. He may get the job but no way they have had time to do a legitimate coaching search. If they have already offered Fedora then he was the man all along and the search committee was never needed.

Last I heard was that it was Smart's job but he was waiting to see what happened in Georgia because Ole Miss wasnt offering enough money. Fedora was next in line with his stock rising everyday. And then possibly Tony Dungy with Hugh Freeze as OC and coach in waiting. Rich Rod and Leach have already been interviewed and cut from the list bc of legal issues. This is from and inside source. I personally like Hugh Freeze with or without Dungy.

If true, that means you will have a much larger pool of candidates that are interested. A coach can make 16 million in 4 years and retire a very wealthy man. Also means a lot of other current head coaches will be asking for a raise.

My thoughts... you could hire Nick Saban, Les Miles, or Bob Stoops with 10 Mil/year and the results will still be mediocre. They simply will not get the type recruits at Ole Miss that AL, LSU, or OK get... period. The Reason these teams are so good is cause its the kids that go there, and the fact that kids WANT to go there. Sure throw in the fact that you have a high dollar coach, but guess what so does AL, LSU, FL, TN, AR, and AU. Throwin that kind of money at the problem aint gonna make what you've got right now, not a problem. And you know as a State fan, I would be and was saying the same thing if the shoe is on the other foot.
