Unfortunately I too know what it's like to have to let one of my best friends ever go, and go through the mind numbing process of laying them to rest. It's something that could never be easy for any person with half a heart. Let alone when you love them like a member of the family.

Fortunately, I also know what it was like to see ole Chief hunt as have others on here. His memory will live on until we haven't another thought left in our head. As a good dog, a companion, a hunter, and a hell of a retriever.

RIP Mark's McIntyre Super "Chief"

[quote]. . . For if the dog be well remembered, if sometimes he leaps through your dreams actual as in life, eyes kindling, laughing, begging, it matters not where that dog sleeps. On a hill where the wind is unrebuked and the trees are roaring, or beside a stream he knew in puppyhood, or somewhere in the flatness of a pasture land where most exhilarating cattle graze. It is one to the dog, and all one to you, and nothing is gained and nothing lost – if memory lives. But there is one best place to bury a dog.

If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call – come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well-remembered path and to your side again. And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel they shall not growl at him nor resent his coming, for he belongs there.

People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall, who bear no whimper, people who may never really have had a dog. Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them.

The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master

Thanks guys. Seeing some of those pics of Chief brought a smile to my face. Lots of great memories there. I consider myself very fortunate to have had such a great retriever and companion. I know in time I'll take to my new little girl Sky in the same way. Thanks again for the pics and kind words.

eSJay wrote:I can't imagine how difficult it was to let go Mark. I know you have many many great memories of Chief that can never be taken away. Cheif was a stud of a dog & a hellava duck hunter. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to hunt with him. I'm guessing that was one of his last hunts.
Hang in there man. Keep Chief's memories close to your heart & look forward to new beginnings with Sky.
eSJay, I'll have to take a look at my journal but I do know this wasn't his last hunt but there were not to many after that pic was taken. If I'm not mistaken we hunted in late January. Thanks for posting the tribute pic. That was really neat.

RIP CHIEF.

i rubbed ole Pace's head a little extra last night, Even let her climb up in the recliner. thinking about how more years have passed, than she has left. I've had her since i was a Freshman in College, she's stuck with me moving all over the country untill we finally fournd our way back to the promise land. funny thing about a dog, home is where ever you are.

Its amazing how happy an ole dog can make you.

Sorry for your loss.
