? about pricing

Postby craziehunter18 » Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:27 pm

I have a finished male black lab, 4 years old. He is AKC and UKC registered but I didn't get the papers with him. Good working dog but I dont spend the time with him that he needs. What can I get for him in this case.

Pens on what your definition of "finished" is. If I am in the market and he ain't registered, titled, whatever and I come over and he is finished per say- I'd say 300$ maximum. If he is looking like John Does "finished" then I am probably going home with no dog. It ain't worth it with the market like it is with labs.

It's kinda like I told a fella I know who was selling an outboard: he had a nice outboard motor for sale. Problem was, the market value of it was worth much less than what the motor was worth to him. He couldn't sell it anywhere close to what its usefullness was worth to him. Don't mean mucha nothing on the quality of the motor it was top of the line. The market thought otherwise. The market is the boss man, that's the reality of it.

With that being said I know a fella with an unregistered chocolate female that's titled and will run the table on MANY MANY of the high dollar flashy bloodline dogs out there.

To be 100% honest.....

Not a whole lot, greenheadgrimreaper hit it on the head. No titles, no papers, and from the sounds of it, you're not sure of the sire and dam to locate the papers. On top of that, no health clearances, no way to prove the dog is or isnt what you say it is.

That is all before even SEEING the dog.

Now, we get to the tough spot, I can say my dog is finished, because she has passed finished tests. What can you do to prove yours is finished? I'm not bashing you or the dog, but it sounds like you went into this half-cocked, and now your trying to flip the dog to make a buck and you dont have any credibile sources to prove the dog is or isnt finished. You have no health clearances, and you have no papers. Now I understand I could come and it could easily be the next GRHRCH MH, but even then, I would'nt give a dollar over 400 dollars for no other reason then there is wayyyy too much gray area.

All in all, you're looking at not a whole lot. 4yrs old is still young, but there is way too much of an unknown.

good luck with the sell though.

I have been selling finished and started hunting retrievers for a long time, and a good steady dog that you can demonstrate multiple marks, blinds, and handle missing shots and the BS that occurs in the blind.....will fetch way more than you think to people that ar
e looking for a hunter ,not a breeder.Seldom have I had anyone even ask about "papers" or clearances.I dont market to "dog" people .....I market to hunters. The people on these forums already have a dog.Try Mississippi Sportsman free classifieds and be prepared to demo your dog......your dogs performance will sell itself.Good luck.

Dogs are only worth (dollar wise) what someone is willing to pen the check for.
I've got a big registered Chlt Lab male HRCH/SH for sale that apparently aint worth nothin so I would say good luck selling him. :o

pal/ilp program with the akc, only thing I can figure.

I may be wrong she may of been registered. Just knowing the short background on her, she was considered a major underdog, pun intended.

He could have spayed the dog, and had it registered on an ILP and done it. I forgot you could still do that.
