I drink alot of bourbon, but had never heard of the stuff. Went out and bought some and wasnt that impressed. This year I have heard a discussion or two about Pappy Van Winkle and have never heard so much talk as in the last 2 weeks. You would think if'n it was as good as e'rrybody says, or 26yr old per bottle, then it would have been talked about alot more over the year on our annual whiskey discussions. It's like some people just pick something expensive or "the cool thing" and say "yeah thats good stuff and it's my favorite". If'n I were a bettin man, and as hard to come by as it is, I would venture to say that some people who are out saying they are drankin on a $300 bottle of bourbon are full of it................I'm not sayin....I'm just sayin

If $300 whiskey taste that much better than $30 whiskey, I better NOT try it.

Actually, I think they're tryin' to drop a not-so-subtle hint that they want you to buy them a real expensive drink.

Where do you find that around starkville?

You dont.
Not entirely true. Liquor store by Brewskis has had it before, so has the one over by Little Ceasars.

The only person I have ever had tell me about it is bigbeeducker on here. He's rich so he can afford it. Some people who don't drink spirits just to get drunk will pay top dollar for a good bottle of distillates. There is a difference between a bottle of whiskey to get sideways and a bottle to sip on the night before opening day. For some people trying and tasting new whiskey is a hobby. It shouldn't be that surprising that some people decide they have a new whiskey they like.

If I were a betting man I would say the majority of folks who drink spirits really have no idea of how or why the distillates taste like they do. Or how to even judge the difference between two spirits. In short they decide they like a bottle of bourbon because of price, labeling or because, like you said, it is what everyone else is drinking.

But, it is not far-fetched to believe that folks who will pay 300$ for a bottle of bourbon are usually the ones who enjoy fine bourbon. Judging by the rarity of Van Winkle, there are some folks out there who are in fact not full of $hit.

I'm just saying that most of the knuckleheads I am talking about just say they "drink it" and dont really sit around and sip a $300 bottle of bourbon......it's become the new "look at how cool I sound in the bourbon discussion" drink of choice.

Yep, like I said they don't know why they like Van Winkle other than everyone else is liking it.
