Anyone know any info on 2005 ford 6.0???
Guys I was just wondering if any of you either worked at ford or on diesels that may have any information on these trucks. I am thinking of getting one however it is said to need the egr bypass kit installed before driving. I want to know if there is anything else I need to look for in this truck as a result of this part failing. The injectors have just been replaced.
Just wondered if any of you had any ideas or info. Also if you do work on these if you would be interested in putting this onif I purchase it.
Thanks
J

My own personal opinion=I would not own a ford with the 6.0. We have several at work and each and every one has had trouble. Mainly heads, radiators, coolant, water pump problems. I know other people who have had these same problems. Ford just told us that we were having the problems because we weren't using motorcraft fuel filters, motorcraft air filters. motorcraft oil filters, motorcraft gold antifreeze, and distilled water in our coolant system.

All 6.0's have problems. Not a matter of if, but when. Get a 7.3 or 6.4.

I have done a couple of 6.0 Fords. The only thing that scares me about your statement is that "its need the EGR bypass kit installed before driving". If the EGR went out it could possibly damaged more stuff when it went out.
A 6.0 is a great motor for about $2500 in work. Head studs, EGR delete, gauges and and exhaust if you plan on a programmer. But they are very solid motors if done right after the upgrades.

Run, don't walk from a 6.0. I had one. I have a $0.10 O ring on my key chain that serves as a reminder of the very, very expensive repair bill it cost me.

I have a little more info now being that the cooler has a hole in it. The guy told me that he came out one morning to go to work and there was water on his garage and he had it towed to the dealership to be repaired and that's where we are. Stated that the engine will bar over and insist this is it's only "known" problem. If anyone knows anyone that is a 6.0 mechanic that would be willing to go with me to look at the truck tomorrow I will gladly pay them for their time.
Thanks for your help guys!

You will regret buying it. I owned a little over a year and it was in the shop 3 times. I traded and got a duramax, a beast compared to the ford 6.0.

If you are having to go to the shop to look at it, well that should be your first clue.

Get you a dirtymax or a Cummins, with a manual transmission and be done with it!

My brother talked to me about it and sounds like you're getting an awesome deal!! Even if yout put money in it to fix it you will still have way less invested than what it is worth!

Stay away they are junk. Either find an old 7.3 or get the new 6.7 which is made by Ford and not International.
Re: Anyone know any info on 2005 ford 6.0???
EGR failure can put coolant in the cylinders. This added to stretched TTY head studs causes the head gasket failures.
An EGR delete kit is hands down the best way. No bypass and no replacement, get rid of the stupid thing. For a mechanic, it's about a 6-8 hour job for just the EGR delete. For a shadetree guy, it's about a 12-14 hour job. You have to remove most of the top side of the engine. The bad part is, being your that far into the engine, it's CHEAP insurance to do the other standard upgrades then instead of later.
Below is a list of items that should (note should) be changed on a 6.0L.
EGR Delete - removes the prone to failure EGR system
Upgrade Head Studs - removes the TTY studs that are prone to stretching
Upgrade Oil Cooler - replaces the OEM cooler that is prone to clogging and failure
Bypass Oil Filter - clean oil extends the life of the turbocharger, HPOP and HEUI injectors
Bypass Coolant Filter - clean coolant extends the life of the water pump. (Engine blocks are cast using sand. Sand slowly gets released into the water jackets and will shorten the life of the water pump.)
