State may be in trouble

Postby jtdumallard » Thu Sep 01, 2011 8:31 pm

When SEC play starts. LB's cant fill holes, front D-line has not been impressive and our corners are giving way to much cushion and 8yd completions.

Taking it easy against Memphrica. No need of showing Auburn much.

Exactly, why show your SEC foes any info against these scrubs. This has turned into a glorified practice.

I agree, I understand that we aren't givin em everything against Memphis but the defense's
Effort, speed, and execution as been pretty much pitiful IMO.. No Excuse for letting Memphis push our d-line around on several several plays.. I'm pretty worried about next week if our D plays like this

I thought we were flying around pretty impressively on d. We made some mistakes early. All and all we didn't learn much tonight. The season is still pretty much wide open on how we will do.

That's the problem opening the season with mempho. You don't know hoe good or bad you're gonna beafter the game unless of course you lose to them.

Pretty much what I thought too. Its very apparent we will be missing Chris White, KJ Wright, and Diaz as the coordinator for a while this year. The DBs were making some good tackles and hits, but that is not their job, its the linbackers. I don't want a safety having too many tackles cause if he does the LB crew are letting the guy get through. Although the defensive line showed us some dominance at times, we still have to remember that it was Memphis and probably wont be that easy again this year.

Offense came in and got it done and Ballard and Relf look like maybe they can pick up where they left off last year. They will have to to help this D stay off the field more than last year. Games will be on their shoulders this year, not the defenses like last (for the most part).

I am glad we came in focused on offense for the most part and came out with a win..... any day State does that is a good day. We will see just how we can compete next week.

The LB's did ok in my opinion. Matthew Wells #22 was in on just about every tackle for several Memphis possessions. You had two frosh playing on the DL because of Cox not playing. The DB's were playing zone most of the game so Aub wouldn't get a good look.

The offense probably ran 20 plays last night. Bumphis caught one pass I believe, so that should tell you something, and it wasn't because they had him covered up. Perkins also got little to no carries.

Yes, Memphis is BAD, but State was just rolling with the flow of the game and racked up 600+ yds without hardly even trying.

we shall see. I enjoyed the win, just hope that we dont see more of what we saw last night with the corners playing 10 yards off the line and linebackers watching the safetys make tackles.

where in the HELL was Perkins last night. I think I saw him on the field for three snaps. Is he in the dog house for something? He's my favorite player, I love watching him shred the defense.

Also, I is very obvious that Vick Ballard did some major work in the off season. He was so freakin explosive last night. But ya'll are right, the win last night gives us no gauge as to how good we can be this year. I guess we'll have to wait and find out against auburn (queers).

Yea Perkins really wasn't present. Hopefully they were just holding him back as to not give away too much offense last night. However, Lewis did really well on offense. His special teams decision making needs serious work, maybe he was just trying to do too much. I wish they could put Lewis, Ballard, Perkins, and Relf on the field at the same time and I would think a defense would be very challenged with that much speed and talent to deal with.

that's what i was thinking...may have just been the way the dreads were jostlin', but it looked like he was gliding around the ends and when he broke into the open field, the way mccluster does.
