Camping places?

Postby Blake Williamson » Tue Aug 16, 2011 10:43 am

Anyone know where any good places to go camping and fishing that would have a couple good sand bars to stay on? Other then the Pearl River and Rez....Me and the lady are going this weekend somewhere. If someone would like to come tag along let me know.

Not that this would be immediately helpful, but for future reference there is a book called Canoeing Mississippi Creeks or something like that...it has a ton of creeks and rivers with sand bars and camping sites marked.

Are you canoeing/kayaking, or taking a boat with an outboard?

My wife got me the book for father's day. Great read. I plan on using it a good bit in the next several years to do some canoe camping.

For all of you guys that enjoy canoeing we'd love to have you come out to the BluzCruz next year. In the past the race has coincided with Riverfest and as a result has conflicted with other races. In 2012 the race will be moved to the fourth weekend in April.

MS River. Plenty of sand out right now. Still to hot for me, but there is usually a little breeze blowing at night.

We took the kids to the Black Creek in Brooklyn late this spring/early summer. Went through black creek rentals... stayed on a sandbar about 300 yards from rental place, canoed down the next day, camped out that night on a sandbar that we found, and canoed in to the pick up point the last day. Rented canoes and van ride from black creek. If you go with that outfit, you can pick the length of float you want to do: 3 mile, 5 mile, 12 mile, etc. ...Very good outfit and we are going to do it again this fall when it cools down a little more.
