Re: Speck Decoys
Hmm one of the rare cases where a hijack makes for an even better thread...
Denduke everytime something comes up about hunting or fishing you have been there and done that. But not in a bad way. In a "I remember back in 72" kind of way.
Hell I gotta get to work if I'm going to get close.

No problem on the hijack, I'm Albanian remember, we get no respect in here
Great idea on the paint job on the Canada decoys, they look pretty good. I may have to try that or just go with the butt ugly G & H decoys, at least I know they will hold up. I agee on the learning to call suggestion. We killed e few this year with me blowing a Haydel that sounded like we were celebrating New Years each time I used it. I learned to blow it just enough to keep them interested. The best day on Specks was a day we had no Speck decoys, go figure. Reading this stuff makes me wish I were more handy in the shop. I have all sorts of ideas floating around in my head, most of them fail miserably, but the fun is in the tryin'.

Re: Speck Decoys
I've been using those home made motion stakes like Denduke's for a few years on my canada shells. They work a lot better than the plastic ones you get with the dekes. One thing I did, and he may have too, is put a piece of reflective tape around the stakes close to the top. That way I can put them in the ground before daylight, shine then to get an idea of how they are laid out, then put the shells on them.

Re: Speck Decoys
Well this post seems fairly week after Denduke's epic hijack, but I was going to say, Green Head Gear makes some good floater specks. I've got 6 of them I occasionally put out in the spread when we are hunting a big field.

GHG FFD's, you only need 3 or 4 depending on what you are doing. for what you have to pay for them, you'll learn not to be as rough on them.
Re: Speck Decoys
kill all them ducks and geese i killed a bunch of specks last year with no decoys out with only a few mallard decks

I LIKE DUCK HUNTING AND BOWFISHING
Re: Speck Decoys

Tica,
Wish they would work like those Bluewings that landed next to me and started eating Algae off of my waders. By far the dumbest duck I have ever seen.

The Avery flocked are hard to beat. We eat them up in the Poinsette County rice fields.
