Incredible story! Thanks for sharing.
Re: Unusual Band Recovery-w/results
One more bit of information discovered today.
I dug-out the log my brother kept - one section for ducks, one section for geese, and a section for squirrels.
I found the entry for a blue goose on the date of the reported recovery (12/24/58) ......and it had a notation out to the side......'band'. He killed another blue that day and it had the notation 'im' for immature by it. There were several other im notations on other snows/blues......I just never noticed the 'band'.......but wouldn't have known where the band actually was.....until this weekend.
I figured he flattened it out to drill a hole in it and put it with the other award medallions he had on the watch chain. I'm just glad it didn't snap in half when I re-bent it in a circle.
The location (as noted in the log) was 'Martone'. There were a lot of other entries for ducks and geese killed here - more than any of the other 3 most-popular locations in the log. Must have been a helluva good spot - but it's the only one I don't remember hearing anything about.
Again, I appreciate the nice comments, support, and positive response to this story.
Happy Hunting!

That is awesome Randy. It is funny how the smallest of items found in the back of a drawer revive the biggest and best memories.

Very cool. Congrats on the find!
Re: Unusual Band Recovery-w/results
Wow, Randy! Great find.
I've looked over Hell and half of the country for the cigar box I used to keep bands in from when I first started hunting in the delta. I sent the info in, but I never wanted to put them on a lanyard...believe it or not, it would not have been cool back then, just showin off!
I lost track of them over the half dozen moves I made after college. Probably had 10-12 in that box along with some other treasures that would be valueless to someone else. Your story gives me hope that when I'm gone, someone will find them and give them to my son. I sure hope they find their way into his hands one day.
As I said, your story gives me hope!
Bobby
