That is one hell of a story; of course the story teller makes it all the better.

Simply awesome.

Great story Randy. I remember looking at some of your old photos of your family hunts at the first ever Ms Ducks skeet shoot you hosted in Starkville way back when. I hope you can get some info on the band.

Unbelievable - Danny from the BBL sent me this, today........
Danny Bystrak wrote: That band was reported shot on December 24, 1958. Unfortunately, that long ago, we didn't store names of hunters, but the report was from the vicinity of the north end of Calcasieu Lake, which puts it right where you said. It was banded in at the Squaw Creek NWR in Missouri on Novemebr 11, 1958 as an adult "Blue" Goose. What's odd about the report is that it says that the bird was caught due to injury, not shot.
WOW!!!

I will have to look on the map and see which place he killed this bird.

I suspect: Gum Cove (most likely - Berdon Lawerence's family owned some land @ Gum Cove and was one of Perry's closest hunting buddies in High School - they graduated in 1960 and practically lived @ Gum Cove during waterfowl season)

Well, It does have special significance but I can't say that it is any more special than the others that I have acquired over the last 33 years of hunting along-side my life-long hunting partner. She's got her own string of bands, too.

My brother's band is just part of a much bigger story.......

My wife lost her main hunting partner (her Dad) the year she and I met. The amazing thing is that we found each other, and we have been able to share our passion for hunting with each other - partially filling huge voids that our respective heros left.

Each band has a significant story behind it - this one just has more of a healing affect. I think that means a lot to both of us because we can relate to each others' loss and continue to celebrate and appreciate the fact that we found each other. That makes it all the sweeter.

It's amazing when God's plan is revealed - in ways none of us could ever imagine or design. Even in moments of sadness, he allows us to experience joy. Their memory will never die.
