Removing swollen boards in control structure

Postby loch leven » Sat Aug 06, 2011 8:12 pm

What is the best way to remove swollen boards in a water control structure without cutting them? I have used pallet pullers to grip them and pull them out but can't find one to purchase except online. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Let the boards dry out, as much as possible....then, pour some used cooking oil on each end of the board, and let it soak in overnight....then, drill a hole in the center of the board, just big enough to run a small cable thru it....make a loop out of the cable, and secure the loop with a cable clamp....then, set a handyman jack on the metal floor of the control structure, and it'll jack it out, easily....fill the hole that you drilled in the board with a little silicone or putty, and it's ready to re-use.

Not an easy way.

Our risers have a 30" opening. We always suggest the boards be cut to overlap about 3/8 - 1/2 on each side, which makes boards about 31" wide max. This gives room to swell and still seal up amd be easy to get out when full of water.

we built a thing. if i had a picture of it id post it up. its like a T bar. pivots in the middle. has a pair of log dogs with a hook welded on them. hooks to a piece of chain to adjust that is on one end of T then the other end is about 4' long. bottom of the T sits of the riser.. push down.. they pop right out
