Tumor question

Postby EgyptianAddiction » Wed Jul 27, 2011 12:29 pm

I have a decent 8 point that has a tumor about the size of a large grapefruit poking out of his ribs. I was wondering if I should shoot him because of that or would he be ok to let him grow bigger for next year.

When was the last time you saw the deer? I would judge it by how large the tumor was when last seen vs how large it looks that day afield. If it's larger than previous and looks potentially life threatening then I would harvest him. How old is the deer?

I assume you're not going to eat them meat? I'd let him be and see what he turns out to be.

He looks to be a two year old maybe squeaking three but I not mature by a long shot. THis is my first year to lease this land and saw him with it. Not sure how long he has had the tumor but will continue to watch and see if it keeps growing or not.

i killed one once with a tumor on his back. it was about the size of a softball and was about an inch high. turned out it was a 3" piece of arrow with broadhead and pod that didn't open from years before. he was actually fine. i just thought he had a disease is the only reason i shot him. but i gave the meat to a democrat.

Robby, have a buddy that's a cameraman and had to sit in a tree above her for a whole day........said she looks even better in person. If that makes you feel any better.

My Dad killed a 140" 8 point 3 years ago that looked like it had a tumor on the top of his back. Turned out out had been shot all the way through from straight above with a muzzy. Had an exit wound on the bottom side right where the ribs stopped. Actually ended up talking to the guy that shot the deer with the bow since we hunt a military reserve and they post pictures of all the big deer. Should've died from the shot placement. Pretty cool story none the less.
